Fixing the bounce
Fast at the threshold, normal flare, and the runway seems to refuse the aircraft. The instinctive fix - pushing it on - causes the next one. A fast aircraft forced onto the runway touches nosewheel-first or nearly so. The tell is a touchdown that feels soft followed by a bounce that steepens. Pilots fix the bounce recovery; the cause was the 10 knots at the threshold.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway. They are the approach's score: the checks passed out of the checks that ran.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,457 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 1,457 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 231 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The Airbus A320-ceo taxied from the parking area to runway 05 at LFBD Bordeaux-Mérignac Airport, a movement that lasted 12 minutes and covered 3 nm.
During the departure roll on runway 05, the aircraft accelerated to a liftoff speed of 156 kt and became airborne after using 2,121 m of runway, representing 68 % of the available length; ambient conditions were 32 °C with a 4 kt wind from 0°, including a 3 kt headwind and a 3 kt crosswind.
Climb commenced one mile south of Le Haillan, with the airplane ascending from 1,019 ft asl to 35,008 ft asl, a gain of 33,989 ft achieved in 19 minutes while covering 123 nm.
Cruise began one mile north-east of Cordes-sur-Ciel and was maintained for 43 minutes, during which the flight progressed 325 nm at level altitude.
Descent was initiated seven miles west of Saint-Florent, with the aircraft descending from 35,001 ft asl to 1,388 ft asl, a loss of 33,613 ft over 25 minutes and a distance of 130 nm.
The final approach to runway 05 at LIRQ Florence Airport, Peretola, involved a descent from 1,297 ft agl to 26 ft agl in 103 seconds, and the aircraft scored on the stabilisation gates.
Landing on runway 05 was executed with a threshold speed of 132 kt; touchdown occurred at 128 kt, 229 m down the runway, with a vertical speed of minus 225 fpm and perfect runway-touchdown alignment, while local weather reported 29 °C, a 3 kt wind from 33°, a 1 kt crosswind and a 3 kt headwind.
The rollout covered a total landing distance of 891 m, equivalent to 61 % of the runway, and the aircraft maintained perfect alignment throughout the ground run.
After landing, the aircraft taxied from the runway to the parking stand in 5 minutes, traveling 1 nm.
In total, the flight covered 588 nm, required 104 minutes of airborne time, and consumed 3,672 kg of fuel.
The Airbus A320ceo conducted the final approach to runway 05 at LIRQ Florence Airport, Peretola, and the approach was assessed as stabilised at the 1,000 ft gate, with gear, flaps, sink rate, glideslope, centreline and speed all within limits; the descent progressed from 1,297 ft agl to 26 ft agl in 103 seconds and the pilot was scored on the stabilisation gates.
At threshold the aircraft presented a good threshold height and a good threshold speed of 132 kt; the flare produced a touchdown distance of 229 m, a touchdown speed of 128 kt that was noted as a little fast, a touchdown rate rated fair at minus 225 fpm, and runway touchdown alignment was perfect.
Touchdown occurred 229 m down the runway at a speed of 128 kt, with a vertical rate of minus 225 fpm; the alignment at the point of contact was perfect and the speed was slightly above the optimal target.
During rollout the aircraft travelled a total landing distance of 891 m, representing 61 % of the 1,457 m runway, and the rollout alignment remained perfect; local weather was 29 °C with wind 3 kt from 33°, including a 1 kt crosswind component and a 3 kt headwind.
To convert the minor excess speed into a smoother landing, a slight reduction of touchdown speed and a marginally higher flare point are recommended, which will also help achieve a gentler vertical rate while preserving the excellent alignment already demonstrated.
