Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 7,489 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 7,489 ft of the 10,508 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 2,929 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight in question was operated by a Boeing 777-300 aircraft. The aircraft began its journey by taxiing from the parking area to the runway, a process that took 21 minutes and covered a distance of 4 nautical miles. The departure roll took place on runway 13R at John F. Kennedy International Airport (KJFK), with the aircraft taking off after covering 8,033 feet of the runway, which is 87% of its total length. The liftoff speed was 202 knots.
As the aircraft climbed to its cruising altitude, it encountered local weather conditions of 72°F temperature and a wind speed of 9 knots at 110°. The crosswind was 2 knots, while the headwind was 9 knots. The enroute climb started overhead Inwood, New York, where the aircraft ascended from 1,028 feet above sea level to 30,588 feet, an increase of 29,560 feet in 14 minutes, covering a distance of 97 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered a level cruise phase, which started 5 miles north of Charles G. Kalko Airport in Honesdale, Pennsylvania. This phase lasted for 78 minutes and covered a distance of 3,354 nautical miles. The aircraft continued to climb and cruise, with subsequent enroute climb phases taking place 61 miles west of Mekoryuk Airport in Alaska, 9 miles west of R 301 in South Korea, and 7 miles southwest of Incheon International Airport in South Korea.
The aircraft also experienced several level cruise phases, including one that started at a latitude of 59.6680254 and a longitude of -171.3318115, lasting 52 minutes and covering 2,640 nautical miles. Another level cruise phase started 7 miles southwest of Incheon International Airport and lasted 44 minutes, covering 330 nautical miles.
As the aircraft approached its destination, it began its descent, starting 48 miles northeast of Dongying Shengli Airport in China. The descent from 38,034 feet above sea level to 17,536 feet took 9 minutes, covering a distance of 67 nautical miles. The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which started 24 miles southeast of Tanggu Airport in China and lasted only 2 minutes, covering 11 nautical miles.
The final descent phase started 13 miles south of Tanggu Airport, where the aircraft descended from 17,332 feet above sea level to 5,671 feet in 17 minutes, covering a distance of 79 nautical miles. The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which started 4 miles southeast of Beijing Tongxian Air Base in China and lasted 27 minutes, covering 8 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 36L at Beijing Capital International Airport took place from the south, with the aircraft heading 354.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,264 feet above ground level. The landing took place on a runway length of 10,508 feet, with the threshold height at 69 feet above ground level being above the target, and the threshold speed being well above the target at 153 knots.
The touchdown point was 1,580 feet beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 142 knots, which was a little fast. The touchdown rate was fair at -276 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 14 feet from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 69°F temperature and a wind speed of 2 knots at 52°.
The total landing distance was 7,240 feet, which is 69% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The aircraft then taxiied to the parking area from the runway, a process that took 13 minutes and covered a distance of
The Boeing 777-300 aircraft successfully landed at ZBAA Beijing Capital International Airport on runway 36L. The final approach was initiated from the south, heading 354.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,264 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft's performance during the landing was evaluated, and it scored an overall 88.0%.
The aircraft's approach to the runway was satisfactory, but there were some areas for improvement. The threshold height at 69 feet agl was above the target, indicating that the aircraft was slightly higher than desired when reaching the runway threshold. Additionally, the threshold speed was well above the target at 153 knots, suggesting that the aircraft was descending at a faster rate than necessary.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's performance was evaluated. The touchdown point was 1,580 feet beyond the touchdown zone, which is a significant deviation from the desired location. The touchdown speed of 142 knots was a little fast, indicating that the aircraft could have been slowed down more effectively during the approach. The touchdown rate of -276 feet per minute (fpm) was considered fair, suggesting that the aircraft's descent was not excessively steep.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 14 feet from the centreline, which may have been due to the aircraft's heading or alignment during the approach. However, the runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the aircraft's brakes were applied effectively and the aircraft was brought to a stop in a controlled manner.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were favorable, with a temperature of 69°F and a wind speed of 2 knots at 52°. The crosswind component was minimal at 2 knots, and the headwind component was 1 knot, which did not significantly impact the aircraft's performance during the landing.
Overall, the Boeing 777-300 aircraft's landing performance at ZBAA Beijing Capital International Airport was satisfactory, but there were some areas for improvement. The aircraft's approach and touchdown performance could be refined to achieve a more precise touchdown and a slower touchdown speed.
