Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,608 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,608 m of the 1,977 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 1,344 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft, a Piper PA-24-250 Comanche, taxiing from the parking area to the runway at ENKB Kristiansund Airport, Kvernberget. This process took approximately 1 minute and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft then departed from runway 07, with a takeoff distance of 271 meters, which accounted for 12% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 65 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 11 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 6 knots from a direction of 270 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 2 knots and a tailwind of 6 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting overhead ENKB Kristiansund Airport, Kvernberget. During this climb, the aircraft ascended from an altitude of 642 feet above sea level to 2,420 feet above sea level, an increase of 1,778 feet, in just 3 minutes and covering a distance of 4 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started 3 miles south of Rensvik and lasted for 7 minutes, covering a distance of 14 nautical miles. The aircraft then began another enroute climb, this time starting 3 miles south of Eide. During this climb, the aircraft ascended from an altitude of 2,908 feet above sea level to 3,517 feet above sea level, an increase of 608 feet, in just 2 minutes and covering a distance of 2 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started 3 miles northwest of Hjelset and lasted for 2 minutes, covering a distance of 3 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting 2 miles west of Hjelset. During this descent, the aircraft descended from an altitude of 3,407 feet above sea level to 266 feet above sea level, a decrease of 3,141 feet, in just 3 minutes and covering a distance of 4 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 07 at ENML Molde Airport, Årø, was made from the northeast, heading 85.0 degrees at an altitude of 239 feet above ground level. The landing was made on runway 07, which had a length of 1,977 meters. The threshold height at 147 feet above ground level was excessively over target, and the threshold speed was excessively high at 94 knots.
The touchdown point was 399 meters beyond the touchdown zone, but the touchdown speed of 48 knots was good, and the touchdown rate of -36 feet per minute was perfect. The runway touchdown alignment was very good. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 13 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 3 knots from a direction of 10 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 3 knots and a headwind of 1 knot.
The total landing distance was 999 meters, which accounted for 51% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was perfect. The aircraft then taxied to the parking area from the runway, a process that took less than 1 minute and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 30 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 20 minutes. The aircraft used 12 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Piper PA-24-250 Comanche aircraft successfully landed at ENML Molde Airport, Årø, with a score of 71.6%. The final approach was initiated from the north east, heading 85.0° at an altitude of 239 feet above ground level (agl) and 0 nautical miles from the runway.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down on runway 07, which has a length of 1,977 meters. However, the threshold height at 147 ft agl was excessively over the target, indicating that the aircraft was higher than desired when reaching the threshold of the runway. Additionally, the threshold speed was excessively high at 94 kt, suggesting that the aircraft was traveling too fast when reaching the threshold.
Despite these initial issues, the touchdown point was 399 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which is a significant distance. Nevertheless, the touchdown speed of 48 kt was good, and the touchdown rate of -36 fpm was perfect, indicating a smooth and controlled descent. The runway touchdown alignment was also very good, demonstrating the pilot's skill in aligning the aircraft with the runway.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 13°C and a wind speed of 3 kt at 10°. The crosswind was 3 kt, and the headwind was 1 kt, which did not significantly impact the landing.
The total landing distance was 999 meters, which is 51% of the runway length. This is a relatively long landing distance, but the runway rollout alignment was perfect, indicating that the aircraft was well under control during the rollout phase. Overall, while there were some initial issues with the threshold height and speed, the pilot demonstrated good skills in controlling the aircraft during the landing, resulting in a good touchdown speed and rate, and a perfect runway rollout alignment.
