MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with six checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,189 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 491 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing from Düsseldorf Airport's runway 23L, the aircraft accelerated down the 1,157-meter takeoff distance, which covered 48% of the runway, reaching a liftoff speed of 149 knots. The local weather conditions at the time were characterized by a temperature of 18°C and a gentle headwind of 7 knots, with a crosswind of the same magnitude. The aircraft cleared the runway and began its enroute climb, which started approximately 1 mile northeast of Meerbusch, Germany. The climb phase saw the aircraft ascend from 842 feet above sea level to 23,003 feet, an increase of 22,161 feet, in just 9 minutes and covering a distance of 50 nautical miles.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which lasted for 7 minutes and covered 49 nautical miles, starting approximately 2 miles southwest of Werdohl, Germany. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, which started 2 miles west of Dehausen Airfield Volkmarsen, Germany, and continued until it reached an altitude of 3,991 feet above sea level, a decrease of 18,343 feet, in 11 minutes and covering 59 nautical miles. The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, lasting 2 minutes and covering 7 nautical miles, before beginning its final descent, which started 2 miles east of Lehrte, Germany. The aircraft landed on runway 27R at Hannover Airport, with a total landing distance of 1,200 meters, which was 38% of the runway length.
The landing was characterized by a slightly misaligned touchdown point, 70 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and a touchdown speed of 116 knots, which was a little fast. The touchdown rate was good, at -193 feet per minute. The aircraft then taxied to the parking area, taking 5 minutes and covering 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 253 nautical miles, taking 60 minutes, and the aircraft used 911 kilograms of fuel.
The final approach to runway 27R at EDDV Hannover Airport from the east was conducted in good conditions, with a heading of 273.0° at 4 nm and 1,384 ft above ground level. The aircraft maintained a stable approach quality, with a threshold height that was well within acceptable limits. The threshold speed was also satisfactory at 124 kt, indicating a well-executed approach.
The touchdown characteristics were generally good, with a touchdown speed of 116 kt, although slightly above the ideal range. The touchdown rate of -193 fpm was within acceptable limits, demonstrating a controlled descent. However, the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 10.6 m from the centreline, which may have contributed to the slightly fast touchdown speed. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 11 °C and a headwind of 4 kt, were favorable for the landing.
The total landing distance of 1,200 m, accounting for 38% of the runway length, was within acceptable limits. The runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 14.9 m from the centreline, which may have been a result of the initial touchdown position. Overall, the landing performance was satisfactory, with a score of 92.8%.
