Improve the landing
A tailwind component on base sweeps you through the extended centreline, the instinctive correction is to steepen the bank and, when that's not enough, to skid the turn with rudder. In a real aircraft this is the base-to-final stall-spin scenario that kills people. Don't steepen past 30 degrees, and if you've blown through the centreline, go around and reset.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with six checks at 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 298 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 298 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 76 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a departure roll from runway 28 at AYWW Owena Airstrip. The Kodiak 100 aircraft accelerated down the runway, covering a distance of 73 meters, which accounted for 21% of the runway's length. The liftoff speed was achieved at 69 knots, marking the start of the aircraft's ascent into the sky.
As the aircraft climbed, it began to ascend from an initial altitude of 5,450 feet above sea level to a higher altitude of 7,683 feet above sea level. This climb was achieved in just 1 minute, covering a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft's ascent was a steep one, with an increase of 2,233 feet in altitude.
After reaching the desired altitude, the aircraft began its descent, starting 1 mile west of AYWW Owena Airstrip. The descent was from 7,712 feet above sea level to 5,295 feet above sea level, a decrease of 2,417 feet in altitude. This descent took 2 minutes to complete, covering a distance of 3 nautical miles.
As the aircraft approached its destination, AYLA Lae Airfield, it began its final approach to runway 10 from the west. The aircraft was heading at 112.0 degrees, 2 nautical miles from the runway, and at an altitude of 1,116 feet above ground level.
The landing was executed smoothly, with the aircraft touching down on the runway at a speed of 53 knots. The touchdown distance was good, covering a distance of 73 meters. The touchdown rate was also perfect, at 440 feet per minute. However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned, being 10.9 meters off the centerline.
The total landing distance was 173 meters, which accounted for 58% of the runway's length. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating a smooth and controlled landing. The total flight distance was 7 nautical miles, and the flight used 11 kilograms of fuel.
The aircraft in question, a Kodiak 100, successfully landed at AYLA Lae Airfield, achieving an impressive score of 88.5%. The final approach to runway 10 was conducted from the west, with a heading of 112.0° at a distance of 2 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,116 feet above ground level.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down on the runway with a speed of 56 knots, which was slightly below the target threshold speed. However, the touchdown distance of 73 meters was deemed good, indicating a smooth and controlled descent. The touchdown speed of 53 knots was also within acceptable limits, and the touchdown rate of 440 feet per minute was perfect, demonstrating a well-executed landing.
Despite the good overall performance, there was a minor issue with the runway touchdown position, which was misaligned by 10.9 meters from the centerline. However, this did not seem to have a significant impact on the landing, as the runway rollout alignment was very good.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were favorable, with a temperature of 19°C and a wind speed of 0 knots at 86°. This resulted in a crosswind and headwind of 0 knots, making the landing even smoother.
Overall, the landing was considered successful, with the aircraft demonstrating good control and precision throughout the approach and touchdown. The minor misalignment of the runway touchdown position was the only notable issue, but it did not seem to have a significant impact on the outcome of the landing.
