Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 2,063 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 2,063 m of the 2,853 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 646 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 6 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-800, then departed from runway 35 at LPPR Francisco de Sá Carneiro Airport. The takeoff distance was 1,203 meters, which is 40% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 162 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 18°C and a wind speed of 17 knots from a direction of 340°. This resulted in a headwind of 17 knots and a crosswind of 3 knots. The aircraft began its enroute climb 1 mile west of Moreira, a location in the Distrito do Porto region of Portugal. The climb started from an altitude of 1,218 feet above sea level and reached a maximum altitude of 36,082 feet above sea level, an increase of 34,864 feet in 17 minutes. The aircraft covered a distance of 101 nautical miles during this climb phase.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 1 mile northeast of LEST Santiago-Rosalía de Castro Airport in Santiago de Compostela, Galicia, Spain. This phase lasted for 61 minutes and covered a distance of 416 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent 2 miles southeast of Lussas-et-Nontronneau, a location in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of France. The descent started from an altitude of 36,099 feet above sea level and reached a minimum altitude of 2,351 feet above sea level, a decrease of 33,748 feet in 27 minutes. The aircraft covered a distance of 113 nautical miles during this descent phase.
The final approach to runway 26 at LFLC Clermont-Ferrand Auvergne Airport was made from the east, with a heading of 262.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,268 feet above ground level. The landing was made on runway 26, which has a length of 2,853 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was slightly above the target speed of 144 knots. The touchdown point was 233 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 134 knots, which was a little fast. The touchdown rate was fair at -206 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was very good.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 17°C and a wind speed of 8 knots from a direction of 170°. This resulted in a crosswind of 8 knots and a headwind of 0 knots. The total landing distance was 1,984 meters, which is 70% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 4 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile.
The total flight distance was 637 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 114 minutes. The aircraft used 4,462 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 737-800 aircraft successfully landed at LFLC Clermont-Ferrand Auvergne Airport, achieving a score of 97.0%. The final approach to runway 26 was initiated from the east, with a heading of 262.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,268 feet above ground level (agl).
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down on the runway, with the threshold height being satisfactory. However, the threshold speed was slightly above the target speed of 144 kt, indicating a slight deviation from the optimal landing speed. The touchdown point was located 233 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, which may be considered a minor deviation.
The touchdown speed of 134 kt was a bit faster than the ideal speed, resulting in a touchdown rate of -206 feet per minute (fpm), which was deemed fair. The runway touchdown alignment was very good, indicating that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway during the landing.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 17°C and a wind speed of 8 kt from a direction of 170°. The crosswind component was 8 kt, while the headwind component was negligible at 0 kt. The total landing distance of 1,984 meters was 70% of the runway length, which is a relatively acceptable distance.
During the rollout phase, the aircraft maintained a very good alignment with the runway, indicating a smooth and controlled deceleration. Overall, the landing was considered successful, with the aircraft achieving a high score of 97.0%.
