Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway. They are the approach's score: the checks passed out of the checks that ran.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,988 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,988 m of the 2,986 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 1,090 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing from Paris-Beauvais Airport, the Airbus A320 began its journey on runway 12, taking 6 minutes to taxi from the parking area to the runway's threshold. With a takeoff distance of 2,035 meters, which utilized 86% of the runway, the aircraft lifted off at a speed of 147 knots. The local weather conditions at the time of departure featured a temperature of 36 degrees Celsius, with a gentle tailwind of 10 knots and a crosswind of just 1 knot.
As the aircraft climbed away from the airport, it began its enroute climb 1 mile north of Therdonne, France, reaching an altitude of 35,009 feet above sea level in 21 minutes, covering a distance of 129 nautical miles. The climb was a significant ascent, with the aircraft rising by 33,829 feet. Following the climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which lasted 72 minutes and covered 501 nautical miles. This phase of the flight was characterized by a steady altitude of 35,009 feet. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting overhead Tales, Spain, and descending to 1,415 feet above sea level in 20 minutes, covering 111 nautical miles.
The final approach to Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport was initiated from the west, with the aircraft heading 100.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,309 feet above ground level. The landing on runway 10 was successful, with the touchdown point located 674 meters beyond the touchdown zone. The touchdown speed of 129 knots was within acceptable limits, while the touchdown rate of -254 feet per minute was fair. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, and the runway rollout alignment was also satisfactory. The total landing distance of 1,907 meters represented 64% of the runway's length. Following the landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, taking 5 minutes to cover less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 749 nautical miles, and the aircraft used 5,102 kilograms of fuel during the journey, which took 124 minutes to complete.
The final approach to runway 10 at LEAL Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport from the west was initiated at 4 nm and 1,309 ft above ground level, heading 100.0°. The approach quality was satisfactory, with a threshold height at 70 ft agl that was above the target. The threshold speed of 141 kt was slightly above the target, indicating a slight delay in the touchdown process.
As the aircraft touched down 674 m beyond the touchdown zone at a speed of 129 kt, the touchdown characteristics were good. However, the touchdown rate of -254 fpm was fair, indicating a slightly higher than ideal rate of descent. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, with the aircraft centered on the runway. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 27 °C and a wind of 7 kt at 80°, contributed to a relatively calm landing environment. The crosswind component was minimal at 2 kt, while the headwind component was 7 kt, providing a stable and predictable approach.
The total landing distance of 1,907 m was 64% of the runway length, indicating a relatively short landing distance. The runway rollout alignment was perfect, with the aircraft remaining centered on the runway throughout the rollout phase. Overall, the landing was satisfactory, with a score of 86.6%. While there were some minor deviations from the target, the pilot's skills and the aircraft's performance ensured a safe and controlled landing.
