MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Fly the flare through
The four classic flare failures feel similar from the cockpit – most of them end in a firm arrival – but they leave different evidence, and two numbers are enough to separate them: how long the flare took (time from 50 ft to touchdown) and how hard the touchdown was. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks at 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 1,948 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 525 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a departure roll from runway 25 at EGGW London Luton Airport. The Airbus A320 took off with a takeoff distance of 1,125 meters, which was 54% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 148 knots. At the time of departure, the local weather conditions were characterized by a temperature of 19 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 12 knots at 199 degrees. The crosswind component was 9 knots, while the headwind component was 7 knots.
As the aircraft climbed out of Luton, it began its enroute climb, which started overhead the airport. The climb took the aircraft from an altitude of 1,319 feet above sea level to 33,465 feet above sea level, an increase of 32,146 feet in just 18 minutes. During this time, the aircraft covered a distance of 106 nautical miles. The enroute level cruise started 1 mile north-west of Barnburgh, Doncaster, England, and lasted for 13 minutes, covering a distance of 88 nautical miles.
The enroute descent started 1 mile north-east of Newburn, Newcastle upon Tyne, England. The descent took the aircraft from an altitude of 33,672 feet above sea level to 2,453 feet above sea level, a decrease of 31,219 feet in 25 minutes. During this time, the aircraft covered a distance of 143 nautical miles. The enroute level cruise started 2 miles north-west of Oldmeldrum, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, and lasted for just 2 minutes, covering a distance of 3 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 16 at EGPD Aberdeen Dyce Airport was made from the north, heading 158.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,279 feet above ground level. The landing was made on runway 16, which had a length of 1,948 meters. The threshold height at 57 feet above ground level was slightly above the target, but the threshold speed was good at 139 knots. The touchdown point was 90 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was a little fast at 133 knots. The touchdown rate was firm at -304 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was very good.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 16 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 7 knots at 139 degrees. The crosswind component was 2 knots, while the headwind component was 6 knots. The total landing distance was 1,262 meters, which was 65% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The total flight distance was 350 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 62 minutes. The aircraft used 2,536 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A320 successfully landed at EGPD Aberdeen Dyce Airport, with a score of 92.7%. The aircraft was approaching the runway from the north, heading 158.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,279 feet above ground level (agl). The final approach was made to runway 16, which has a length of 1,948 meters.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down 90 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which is slightly outside the ideal landing spot. The touchdown speed was recorded at 133 knots, which is a bit faster than the target speed. However, the touchdown rate was firm at -304 feet per minute (fpm), indicating a controlled descent. The runway touchdown alignment was very good, suggesting that the pilot maintained a stable and aligned approach.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 16°C and a gentle wind of 7 knots at 139°. The crosswind component was minimal at 2 knots, while the headwind component was 6 knots. These conditions likely contributed to the smooth landing.
The total landing distance was 1,262 meters, which is 65% of the runway length. This is a relatively short landing distance, indicating that the pilot managed to slow the aircraft down efficiently. The runway rollout alignment was also very good, suggesting that the pilot maintained control of the aircraft during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing was successful, with the pilot demonstrating good control and management of the aircraft during the approach and landing phases. However, there is room for improvement in terms of touchdown speed and landing spot accuracy.
