Improve the pattern downwind leg
The 45-degrees-behind-the-wing cue assumes you can turn your head and use peripheral vision. Downwind spacing cues like "put the wingtip halfway up the strut" assume a fixed, known eyepoint. Neither survives a monitor unmodified. If you fly on a fixed monitor, stop pretending and fly a numbers-based circuit.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate for a circuit: seven checks where the approach path is 300 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate is an instrument-approach check and does not apply.
At the 300 ft gate: off the centreline and wings not level.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 1,814 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 323 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Taxiing from the parking area to the runway at EGPE Inverness Airport took less than a minute, covering a distance of less than one nautical mile. The aircraft, a Beechcraft A36 Bonanza, then began its departure roll on runway 23, utilizing 351 meters, or 19% of the runway's length, to achieve liftoff at a speed of 80 knots. The local weather conditions at the time of takeoff featured a temperature of 16 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 1 knot from 270 degrees, resulting in a negligible crosswind and headwind component.
As the aircraft entered the left-hand traffic pattern from runway 23, it demonstrated a swift and precise turn, covering a distance of less than one nautical mile in 22 seconds. The subsequent crosswind turn was equally impressive, with a distance of less than one nautical mile covered in 21 seconds. The pattern downwind turn featured an angle to the runway of 78.8 degrees, while the downwind leg itself spanned two nautical miles in 45 seconds. The base leg turn, with an angle to the runway of 52.2 degrees, preceded a base leg of less than one nautical mile in 33 seconds. The final turn, also less than one nautical mile in 31 seconds, set the stage for a smooth final approach to runway 23 from the north-east, at a heading of 229.0 degrees and an altitude of 235 feet above ground level.
The landing itself was characterized by a threshold speed well above the target at 85 knots, resulting in a touchdown distance of 322 meters, or 36% of the runway's length. The touchdown speed of 63 knots was also within acceptable limits, while the touchdown rate of -68 feet per minute was excellent. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, and the subsequent rollout alignment was equally impressive. The total landing distance of 653 meters was a testament to the aircraft's handling and the pilot's skill. The total flight distance of eight nautical miles was completed in five minutes, with a fuel consumption of 76 kilograms.
The final approach to runway 23 at EGPE Inverness Airport from the north east was executed with precision, with the aircraft maintaining a heading of 229.0° at 1 nm and 235 ft above ground level. The approach quality was excellent, with a good threshold height achieved. However, the threshold speed was slightly above the target, coming in at 85 kt.
As the aircraft touched down on the runway, the touchdown distance was good at 322 m, and the touchdown speed was well within the acceptable range at 63 kt. The touchdown rate was particularly impressive, with an excellent -68 fpm. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, with the aircraft centered on the runway. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 20 °C and a gentle headwind of 3 kt at 222°, contributed to a smooth landing.
The total landing distance of 653 m was 36% of the runway length, indicating a controlled and efficient rollout. The runway rollout alignment was perfect, with the aircraft maintaining its centerline alignment throughout the rollout phase. Overall, the landing was executed to a high standard, with a score of 99.6% achieved.
