Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with six checks at 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,912 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,912 m of the 3,000 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 1,114 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing from GLMR Spriggs Payne Airport, the Boeing 737-800 began its journey with a smooth taxi to the runway, taking just 3 minutes to cover less than 1 nautical mile. As it rolled down runway 05, the aircraft accelerated to liftoff speed of 149 kt, clearing the ground at 1,157 meters, which was 67% of the runway's length. The local weather conditions were favorable, with a temperature of 24°C and a gentle tailwind of 1 kt.
As the aircraft climbed out of GLMR, it began its enroute climb, steadily increasing its altitude from 999 feet above sea level to 31,001 feet, a gain of 30,003 feet in just 26 minutes. The climb covered a distance of 188 nautical miles, taking the aircraft northeast of Monrovia, Liberia, before transitioning into a level cruise 12 miles northwest of DIGL Guiglo Airport, Ivory Coast. The cruise phase lasted a mere 5 minutes, covering 43 nautical miles. As the aircraft approached its destination, it began its descent, reducing its altitude from 31,000 feet to 1,971 feet in 20 minutes, covering 110 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 23 at DIYO Yamoussoukro Airport was executed from the northeast, with the aircraft maintaining a heading of 222.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,284 feet above ground level. The landing was completed on the 3,006-meter runway, with the touchdown point 707 meters beyond the touchdown zone. The touchdown speed of 146 kt was slightly above the target, while the touchdown rate of -204 feet per minute was considered fair. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centerline, and the runway rollout alignment was also slightly off-center. After a smooth taxi to the parking area, the aircraft came to a stop, having covered a total distance of 348 nautical miles and consumed 3,324 kilograms of fuel in the process.
The Boeing 737-800 touched down on runway 23 at DIYO Yamoussoukro Airport, completing a final approach from the north east at a heading of 222.0°, 4 nautical miles from the threshold and 1,284 feet above ground level. The approach quality was satisfactory, with a threshold height of 60 feet above ground level, slightly above the target, and a threshold speed of 149 knots, marginally above the desired value.
As the aircraft made contact with the runway, the touchdown point was located 707 meters beyond the touchdown zone, indicating a slightly long touchdown. The touchdown speed of 146 knots was a little fast, and the touchdown rate of -204 feet per minute was fair. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centreline by 5.2 meters, which was a minor deviation. The local weather conditions were favorable, with a temperature of 25°C, a wind speed of 1 knot from 200°, and a negligible crosswind component.
The total landing distance of 1,840 meters was 61% of the runway length, indicating a relatively short landing. However, the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned from the centreline by 8.7 meters, which was a minor deviation. Overall, the landing performance was satisfactory, with a score of 86.3%.
