Slow down before tight turns
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
At the 1,000 ft gate: speed above the reference speed.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 2,262 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 2,262 m of the 3,189 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 507 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Airbus A320 taxiing from the parking area to the runway at Düsseldorf Airport, taking approximately 9 minutes to cover a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft then departed from runway 23L, with a takeoff distance of 1,157 meters, which accounted for 48% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 158 knots, and the local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 14°C, a wind speed of 12 knots at 160°, resulting in a crosswind of 11 knots and a headwind of 3 knots.
As the aircraft climbed away from Düsseldorf Airport, it began its enroute climb, which started overhead the airport and continued for 8 minutes, covering a distance of 47 nautical miles. The aircraft climbed from an altitude of 1,543 feet above sea level to 22,565 feet, an increase of 21,022 feet. The enroute level cruise then began 3 miles west of Duelmen, Germany, and lasted for 9 minutes, covering a distance of 67 nautical miles.
The enroute descent started 1 mile northeast of Wagenfeld, Germany, and lasted for 17 minutes, covering a distance of 81 nautical miles. During this phase, the aircraft descended from an altitude of 23,006 feet above sea level to 1,582 feet, a decrease of 21,425 feet. The final approach to runway 09L at Hannover Airport was made from the west, with a heading of 92.0°, and the aircraft touched down on the runway at a speed of 130 knots.
The landing was characterized by a touchdown point 89 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and a touchdown speed that was a little fast. However, the touchdown rate was smooth at -128 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was perfect. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 2°C, a wind speed of 6 knots at 80°, resulting in a crosswind of 1 knot and a headwind of 6 knots. The total landing distance was 2,179 meters, which accounted for 68% of the runway.
After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, taking approximately 5 minutes to cover a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 204 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 50 minutes. The aircraft used a total of 1,832 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A320 successfully landed at EDDV Hannover Airport, achieving a high score of 98.4%. The aircraft approached the runway from the west, heading 92.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,392 feet above ground level (agl). The pilot executed a precise final approach, aligning the aircraft with the runway 09L.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down on the runway at a speed of 130 kt, which was slightly above the recommended threshold speed of 135 kt. However, the touchdown point was 89 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, indicating a minor deviation from the ideal landing spot. The touchdown rate was smooth, with a descent rate of -128 feet per minute (fpm), which is a desirable characteristic for a safe landing.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 2°C and a gentle headwind of 6 kt. The crosswind component was minimal, at 1 kt, which made the landing process even smoother. The runway length of 3,189 meters was sufficient to accommodate the aircraft's landing distance, which was 2,179 meters, or 68% of the runway.
The pilot's performance during the rollout phase was commendable, with the aircraft maintaining a very good alignment with the runway. This indicates that the pilot was able to maintain control of the aircraft during the critical phase of landing, ensuring a safe and stable rollout. Overall, the landing was executed with precision and skill, resulting in a high score of 98.4%.
