Work on the flare
See Arrival Landing
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,831 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,831 m of the 3,771 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 697 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 2 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-800, then departed from runway 19 at BIRK Reykjavik Airport. The takeoff distance was 959 meters, which accounted for 65% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 154 knots.
As the aircraft took off, it encountered local weather conditions of -1°C temperature and a wind speed of 5 knots at 70°. The crosswind was 5 knots, while the tailwind was 1 knot. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting overhead Kopavogur (Hoefudborgarsvaedi, Iceland) and climbing from 1,144 feet above sea level to 38,545 feet above sea level, an increase of 37,402 feet in 41 minutes and covering 321 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started at a latitude of 64.052474 and a longitude of -9.7337013, lasting 131 minutes and covering 1,010 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting 3 miles north east of Iitti (Kymenlaakso, Finland) and descending from 38,998 feet above sea level to 2,500 feet above sea level, a decrease of 36,498 feet in 18 minutes and covering 112 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise, starting 2 miles north west of UKRO Kronshtadt Airfield Kronshtadt (Sankt-Peterburg, Russia) and lasting 3 minutes, covering 14 nautical miles. The enroute descent started 3 miles west of Strel'na (Sankt-Peterburg, Russia) and descending from 2,515 feet above sea level to 1,386 feet above sea level, a decrease of 1,129 feet in 2 minutes and covering 6 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 10R at ULLI Pulkovo Airport was from the west, heading 107.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,307 feet above ground level. The landing on runway 10R, which had a length of 3,771 meters, was successful, with a touchdown point 277 meters beyond the touchdown zone. The touchdown speed was 121 knots, which was good, while the touchdown rate was fair at -278 feet per minute.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were -14°C temperature and a wind speed of 2 knots at 244°. The crosswind was 1 knot, while the tailwind was 1 knot. The total landing distance was 1,746 meters, which accounted for 46% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was perfect. The taxiing to the parking from the runway took 2 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile.
The total flight distance was 1,470 nautical miles, taking 201 minutes and using 8,446 kilograms of fuel.
The Boeing 737-800 aircraft successfully landed at ULLI Pulkovo Airport, achieving a high score of 93.6%. The final approach to runway 10R was conducted from the west, with a heading of 107.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,307 feet above ground level (agl).
The aircraft touched down on the runway, with the threshold height being good. However, the threshold speed was slightly above the target speed of 138 kt. Despite this, the touchdown point was 277 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which is a relatively acceptable distance. The touchdown speed of 121 kt was within the acceptable range, indicating a good control of the aircraft during the landing.
The touchdown rate of -278 feet per minute (fpm) was fair, suggesting that the aircraft could have been brought down to the ground more smoothly. Nevertheless, the runway touchdown alignment was very good, indicating that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway during the landing.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were quite challenging, with a temperature of -14°C and a wind speed of 2 kt at 244°. The crosswind and tailwind components were both 1 kt, which is relatively minimal. Despite these conditions, the aircraft was able to land safely and smoothly.
The total landing distance of 1,746 meters was 46% of the runway length, which is a relatively acceptable distance. The runway rollout alignment was perfect, indicating that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing was successful, with the aircraft achieving a high score of 93.6%. While there were some minor issues with the threshold speed and touchdown rate, the aircraft was able to land safely and smoothly in challenging weather conditions.
