Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,831 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 671 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 16 minutes and covered a distance of 3 nautical miles. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-700, then departed from runway 35R at Calgary International Airport (CYYC) in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The takeoff distance was 1,446 meters, which was 34% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 160 knots.
As the aircraft took off, it encountered local weather conditions of -20°C temperature and a wind of 10 knots at 80 degrees. The crosswind component was 10 knots, while the headwind component was 2 knots. The enroute climb started 1 mile northeast of CYYC and reached an altitude of 36,007 feet above sea level (asl) from an initial altitude of 4,625 feet asl. This climb took 18 minutes and covered a distance of 97 nautical miles.
After reaching the cruising altitude, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 16 miles northwest of Radium Hot Springs Airport (CBL6) in Radium Hot Springs, British Columbia, Canada. This cruise phase lasted for 23 minutes and covered a distance of 153 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its descent from 36,043 feet asl to 3,127 feet asl, a decrease of 32,916 feet in 25 minutes and covering 110 nautical miles.
The descent phase was followed by another level cruise phase, which started 2 miles northeast of Birch Bay, Washington, United States, and lasted for 2 minutes, covering a distance of 5 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final descent from 2,700 feet asl to 1,451 feet asl, a decrease of 1,249 feet in 2 minutes and covering 5 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 07 at Abbotsford International Airport (CYXX) was made from the west, heading 86.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,266 feet above ground level (agl). The landing was made on runway 07, which had a length of 2,831 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was also good at 127 knots.
The touchdown point was 240 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 120 knots, which was good. The touchdown rate was firm at -302 feet per minute. However, the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 7.7 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were -6°C temperature and a wind of 23 knots at 69 degrees. The crosswind component was 6 knots, while the headwind component was 22 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,330 meters, which was 47% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 4 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 381 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 89 minutes. The aircraft used 2,842 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 737-700 aircraft successfully landed at Abbotsford International Airport (CYXX) on runway 07. The final approach was initiated from the west, heading 86.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,266 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft maintained a good threshold height, and the threshold speed was achieved at 127 knots, indicating a smooth and controlled descent.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft landed 240 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which is slightly beyond the recommended area. However, the touchdown speed of 120 knots was within the acceptable range, and the touchdown rate of -302 feet per minute (fpm) was firm, indicating a controlled and stable landing. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 7.7 meters from the centerline, which may require some adjustments during the landing roll.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of -6°C and a wind speed of 23 knots from a direction of 69°. The crosswind component was relatively low at 6 knots, while the headwind component was 22 knots, which helped to stabilize the aircraft during the landing approach. The total landing distance of 1,330 meters was 47% of the available runway length, indicating a relatively short landing roll.
The runway rollout alignment was very good, suggesting that the pilot maintained control of the aircraft during the landing roll and was able to align the aircraft with the centerline of the runway. Overall, the landing was successful, and the aircraft came to a stop within a reasonable distance from the runway threshold.
