MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
At the 500 ft gate: sink rate above what the glideslope needed, off the runway's 3° glideslope and off the centreline.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 1,991 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 23 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 10 minutes and covered a distance of 4 nautical miles. The aircraft, an Airbus A320, then departed from runway 02 at VNKT Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, Nepal. The takeoff distance was 1,796 meters, which accounted for 61% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 148 knots, and the local weather conditions were characterized by a temperature of 14°C, with a wind speed of 3 knots at 100°.
As the aircraft climbed out of Kathmandu, it began its enroute climb from 5,510 feet above sea level to 37,800 feet above sea level, an increase of 32,290 feet in 16 minutes, covering a distance of 80 nautical miles. The climb started 2 miles north of VNKT Tribhuvan International Airport. The aircraft then entered a level cruise, which lasted 5 minutes and covered 44 nautical miles, starting 10 miles east of VNKL Kangel Danda Airport in Namche Bazar, Nepal.
The enroute descent started 16 miles east of Dhankuta, Nepal, and the aircraft descended from 37,848 feet above sea level to 17,638 feet above sea level, a decrease of 20,210 feet in 12 minutes, covering a distance of 79 nautical miles. The aircraft then entered another level cruise, which lasted 3 minutes and covered 12 nautical miles, starting 12 miles north of Samtse in Bhutan. The enroute descent started 7 miles south of Ha in Bhutan, and the aircraft descended from 17,235 feet above sea level to 13,871 feet above sea level, a decrease of 3,364 feet in 3 minutes, covering a distance of 9 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise, which lasted 2 minutes and covered 4 nautical miles, starting 1 mile northwest of Ha in Bhutan. The enroute descent started 5 miles north of Ha in Bhutan, and the aircraft descended from 13,629 feet above sea level to 8,263 feet above sea level, a decrease of 5,366 feet in 3 minutes, covering a distance of 8 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 15 at VQPR Paro International Airport was made from the north, heading 181.0° at 1 nautical mile and 878 feet above ground level. The landing on runway 15 was successful, with a touchdown distance of 22 meters and a touchdown speed of 129 knots, which was slightly above the target speed. The touchdown rate was very heavy at -1,173 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 7.2 meters from the centreline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 11°C, with a wind speed of 2 knots at 330°. The crosswind was 0 knots, and the tailwind was 2 knots. The total landing distance was 1,028 meters, which accounted for 52% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 10.1 meters from the centreline.
The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 3 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 246 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 54 minutes. The aircraft used 1,719 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A320 aircraft successfully landed at VQPR Paro International Airport, but with some minor deviations from the ideal landing parameters. The aircraft was approaching the runway from the north, heading 181.0° at 1 nm and 878 ft above ground level (agl). The final approach was conducted with a good threshold height, which is a critical factor in ensuring a safe landing.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's speed was slightly above the target threshold speed of 127 kt, registering at 129 kt. This deviation from the target speed may have contributed to the slightly fast touchdown speed of 129 kt. However, the touchdown distance of 22 m was within acceptable limits, indicating that the pilot maintained control of the aircraft during the landing.
The landing rate was a concern, as it was very heavy at -1,173 fpm. This high rate of descent may have been due to the pilot's decision to touch down slightly above the target speed. The runway touchdown position was also slightly misaligned by 7.2 m from the centreline, which may have been a result of the pilot's attempt to compensate for the high landing rate.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were relatively calm, with a temperature of 11 °C and a wind speed of 2 kt at 330°. The crosswind component was negligible, and the tailwind component was minimal at 2 kt. These conditions would not have significantly impacted the landing, but the pilot's decision to touch down slightly above the target speed may have been influenced by the tailwind.
The total landing distance of 1,028 m was 52% of the runway length, which is within acceptable limits. However, the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 10.1 m from the centreline, indicating that the pilot may have struggled to maintain control of the aircraft during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing was successful, but with some minor deviations from the ideal parameters. The pilot's decision to touch down slightly above the target speed may have contributed to the high landing rate and the slightly misaligned runway touchdown position. However, the aircraft's performance during the landing was generally good, and the pilot maintained control throughout the process.
