Improve the pattern downwind leg
The 45-degrees-behind-the-wing cue assumes you can turn your head and use peripheral vision. Downwind spacing cues like "put the wingtip halfway up the strut" assume a fixed, known eyepoint. Neither survives a monitor unmodified. If you fly on a fixed monitor, stop pretending and fly a numbers-based circuit.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate for a circuit: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate is an instrument-approach check and does not apply.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 1,786 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 117 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departure from EGBP Cotswold Airport's runway 26 was smooth, with the Beechcraft A36 Bonanza achieving liftoff speed of 75 kt in a distance of 789 m, which accounted for 49% of the available runway length. The local weather conditions were favorable, with a temperature of 16 °C and a gentle headwind of 1 kt from a direction of 269°. Following a standard departure procedure, the aircraft entered a left-hand pattern, completing the entry turn in less than 1 nm in 22 seconds.
The subsequent pattern was executed efficiently, with the aircraft maintaining a steady speed and altitude. The downwind turn was completed in 1 nm, with an angle to the runway of 63.9°, while the base leg turn was achieved in 1 nm with an angle of 48.5°. The final approach to runway 26 was made from the east, with the aircraft maintaining a heading of 260.0° at an altitude of 118 ft above ground level. The landing was successful, with a touchdown speed of 56 kt and a touchdown rate of 10 fpm, which was considered perfect. The total landing distance was 263 m, accounting for 16% of the available runway length.
The post-landing rollout was also satisfactory, with the aircraft maintaining a good alignment with the runway. The total flight distance was 7 nm, which was completed in 5 minutes, and the aircraft used a minimal amount of fuel, with no recorded consumption. The overall performance of the aircraft was impressive, considering the favorable weather conditions and the pilot's skillful execution of the flight.
The final approach to runway 26 at EGBP Cotswold Airport from the east was executed with precision, with the aircraft maintaining a heading of 260.0° at 0 nm and 118 ft above ground level. The approach quality was excellent, with a good threshold height achieved. However, the threshold speed was slightly below the target, coming in at 66 kt. Despite this minor deviation, the touchdown distance was good, with the aircraft touching down at 117 m from the threshold.
The touchdown characteristics were also noteworthy, with a speed of 56 kt and a rate of descent of 10 fpm, indicating a smooth and controlled touchdown. The runway touchdown alignment was very good, with the aircraft centered on the runway. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 15 °C and a gentle headwind of 1 kt, contributed to a stable and predictable approach. The crosswind component was negligible, at 0 kt.
The rollout phase was equally impressive, with the aircraft maintaining very good alignment on the runway. The total landing distance of 263 m was a mere 16% of the runway length, demonstrating excellent control and precision. Overall, the landing was scored at 98.4%, a testament to the pilot's skill and experience. The combination of good approach quality, controlled touchdown, and precise rollout made for a smooth and efficient landing.
