MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Fly the flare through
The four classic flare failures feel similar from the cockpit – most of them end in a firm arrival – but they leave different evidence, and two numbers are enough to separate them: how long the flare took (time from 50 ft to touchdown) and how hard the touchdown was. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks at 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,982 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 564 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Airbus A320 taxiing from the parking area to the runway at Hamburg Helmut Schmidt Airport, taking 5 minutes and covering a distance of 1 nautical mile. The departure roll took place on runway 23, with the aircraft lifting off after a takeoff distance of 1,536 meters, which was 55% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 160 knots, and the local weather conditions at the time were a temperature of 10°C, with a wind speed of 6 knots at 210°.
As the aircraft climbed away from the airport, it began its enroute climb, starting 1 mile northwest of Hamburg-Nord. The climb took place from an initial altitude of 1,045 feet above sea level to a maximum altitude of 32,618 feet, an increase of 31,573 feet in just 18 minutes, covering a distance of 114 nautical miles. The climb was followed by an enroute level cruise, which started 1 mile west of Stege, Denmark, and lasted for 85 minutes, covering a distance of 707 nautical miles.
The enroute descent began 6 miles east of Hailuoto Airfield in Finland, where the aircraft descended from a maximum altitude of 32,623 feet to an altitude of 2,667 feet, a decrease of 29,956 feet in just 14 minutes, covering a distance of 85 nautical miles. The descent was followed by a brief enroute level cruise, which started 9 miles southwest of Rovaniemi, Finland, and lasted for just 3 minutes, covering a distance of 10 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 03 at Rovaniemi Airport took place from the southwest, with the aircraft heading at 37.0° at an altitude of 1,170 feet above ground level, 4 nautical miles from the runway. The landing took place on a runway length of 2,982 meters, with the threshold height being slightly above the target, but the threshold speed was good at 138 knots. The touchdown point was 232 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 137 knots, which was a little fast. The touchdown rate was good at -176 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 4.5 meters from the centerline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of -8°C, with a wind speed of 4 knots at 100°. The crosswind was 4 knots, and the headwind was 2 knots. The total landing distance was 1,272 meters, which was 43% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was very good, and the taxiing to the parking area from the runway took just 3 minutes, covering a distance of less than 1 nautical mile.
In total, the flight covered a distance of 924 nautical miles, taking 127 minutes, and used 5,328 kilograms of fuel.
The Airbus A320 successfully landed at EFRO Rovaniemi Airport, achieving a score of 93.0%. The aircraft approached the runway from the southwest, heading 37.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,170 feet above ground level (agl). The final approach was made to runway 03, which has a length of 2,982 meters.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down 232 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which is slightly off-center. The touchdown speed was recorded at 137 knots, which is a bit faster than the target speed. However, the touchdown rate of -176 feet per minute (fpm) was within the acceptable range. The runway touchdown position was also slightly misaligned by 4.5 meters from the centerline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of -8°C and a wind speed of 4 knots from a direction of 100°. The crosswind component was 4 knots, while the headwind component was 2 knots. Despite these conditions, the aircraft performed well, with a total landing distance of 1,272 meters, which accounts for 43% of the runway length.
One of the notable aspects of this landing was the runway rollout alignment, which was described as very good. This indicates that the aircraft maintained its alignment with the runway centerline during the rollout phase, which is an important aspect of safe landing operations. Overall, the Airbus A320 demonstrated a high level of proficiency in landing at EFRO Rovaniemi Airport, with a score of 93.0% reflecting its performance.
