Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,161 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 1,059 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking area to the runway, which took 5 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-800, then departed from runway 34 at KPVD Theodore Francis Green State Airport in Warwick, Rhode Island, United States. The takeoff distance was 1,554 meters, which was 93% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 177 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of -2°C and a wind speed of 13 knots from a direction of 320°. This resulted in a headwind of 13 knots and no crosswind. The aircraft began its enroute climb shortly after departure, starting 1 mile northwest of KPVD and climbing from an altitude of 1,036 feet above sea level to 32,898 feet above sea level, an increase of 31,862 feet in 27 minutes and covering a distance of 122 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise phase began 22 miles southeast of ZC06 Long Island Static Carrier - CVN76 in New York, United States, and lasted for 2 minutes, covering a distance of 12 nautical miles. The aircraft then began another enroute climb, this time from 33,451 feet above sea level to 35,033 feet above sea level, an increase of 1,582 feet in 4 minutes and covering a distance of 25 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise phase resumed 11 miles east of Barnegat Light in New Jersey, United States, and lasted for 238 minutes, covering a distance of 1,434 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting 2 miles southwest of MMXH Pulticub Airport X-Hazil Sur in Estado de Quintana Roo, Mexico, and descending from 37,381 feet above sea level to 1,182 feet above sea level, a decrease of 36,199 feet in 22 minutes and covering a distance of 102 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 07 at MZBZ Philip S. W. Goldson International Airport was made from the southwest, heading 26.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,163 feet above ground level. The landing was made on runway 07, which had a length of 2,161 meters. The threshold height at 74 feet above ground level was well above the target, and the threshold speed was good at 148 knots.
However, the touchdown point was very long, using more than 50% of the available runway. The touchdown speed was a little fast at 143 knots, and the touchdown rate was very hard at -521 feet per minute. Additionally, the runway touchdown position was excessively misaligned by 76.8 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 26°C and a wind speed of 7 knots from a direction of 350°, resulting in a crosswind of 7 knots and no headwind.
The total flight distance was 1,703 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 300 minutes. The aircraft used 13,667 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 737-800 aircraft landed at MZBZ Philip S. W. Goldson International Airport with a score of 55.8%, indicating a less-than-ideal performance. The final approach to runway 07 was initiated from the southwest, heading 26.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,163 feet above ground level (agl).
The aircraft's approach to the runway was characterized by a threshold height that was significantly above the target, suggesting a higher-than-desired altitude at the point of touchdown. However, the threshold speed was satisfactory at 148 knots, indicating that the pilot maintained a suitable airspeed during the approach.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft used more than 50% of the available runway, which is considered excessive. This may have been due to the aircraft's touchdown speed of 143 knots, which was slightly faster than the recommended speed. The touchdown rate was also very hard, with a descent rate of -521 feet per minute (fpm), which could have contributed to the long rollout and excessive runway usage.
Furthermore, the runway touchdown position was significantly misaligned from the centreline by 76.8 meters, which could have been caused by a combination of factors, including crosswind or pilot error. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 26°C and a wind speed of 7 knots from 350°, resulting in a 7-knot crosswind and a 0-knot headwind. These conditions may have contributed to the difficulties experienced during the landing.
