Monitor your taxi speed
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,852 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,852 m of the 3,050 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 529 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing from Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, the Boeing 777-300 began its journey with a taxiing period of 9 minutes, covering 5 nautical miles to reach the runway. The aircraft took off from runway 20L, utilizing 1,687 meters, or 54% of the runway, to achieve liftoff at a speed of 185 knots. The local weather conditions at the time of departure featured a temperature of 32°C, with a 7-knot headwind and a 1-knot crosswind.
As the aircraft climbed to its initial cruising altitude, it traversed a distance of 122 nautical miles in 19 minutes, reaching an altitude of 27,861 feet above sea level. The flight then entered a series of enroute level cruises, with the longest lasting 582 minutes, covering 1,843 nautical miles. The aircraft also underwent several climbs, with the most significant increase in altitude being 26,750 feet in 19 minutes. The flight's enroute phase was characterized by a total fuel consumption of 117,496 kilograms.
Upon approaching Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport, the Boeing 777-300 began its final descent, reducing its altitude from 35,952 feet to 3,764 feet in 21 minutes. The aircraft then entered a series of short level cruises before commencing its final approach to runway 22R. The landing was executed with a touchdown speed of 143 knots, slightly above the target, and a smooth touchdown rate of -144 feet per minute. The total landing distance was 1,771 meters, or 58% of the runway, with the runway rollout alignment being very good. After a taxiing period of 7 minutes, the aircraft arrived at the parking area, concluding a flight that covered a total distance of 7,401 nautical miles.
The Boeing 777-300 touched down on runway 22R at KDTW Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport with a threshold height that met the desired standards. However, the threshold speed was slightly above the target, registering 150 kt. The aircraft's approach quality was otherwise satisfactory, with a smooth touchdown rate of -144 fpm. Despite this, the touchdown speed of 143 kt was a little fast, indicating a slight deviation from the optimal landing parameters.
The touchdown point was located 113 m beyond the touchdown zone, which, while not ideal, did not significantly impact the overall landing performance. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 6.9 m from the centreline, but the rollout alignment was very good, demonstrating the pilot's ability to maintain control and stability during the critical phases of the landing. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 1 °C and a 10 kt headwind, did not appear to have a significant impact on the landing.
The total landing distance of 1,771 m was 58% of the runway length, which is within acceptable limits. Overall, the landing performance was satisfactory, with a score of 96.9%. While there were some minor deviations from the optimal landing parameters, the pilot demonstrated good control and stability throughout the approach, touchdown, and rollout phases.
