Work on the flare
See Arrival Landing
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,720 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,720 m of the 2,395 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 621 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft, an Airbus A321, taxiing from the parking area to the runway at LDZA Zagreb Franjo Tuđman International Airport. This process took 8 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The departure roll took place on runway 04, with the aircraft taking off after covering 1,237 meters, which is 38% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 157 knots.
As the aircraft climbed to a higher altitude, it encountered local weather conditions of 7°C temperature and a wind speed of 3 knots at 40°. The crosswind was negligible, while the headwind was 3 knots. The enroute climb started overhead Velika Kosnica, a location in Zagreb County, Croatia. The aircraft climbed from an altitude of 1,444 feet above sea level to 36,086 feet above sea level, an increase of 34,642 feet, in 21 minutes and covering a distance of 115 nautical miles.
Following the initial climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 2 miles south-west of Eisenerz, a location in Steiermark, Austria. This phase lasted for 34 minutes and covered a distance of 236 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its descent, starting 2 miles north of Aidhausen, a location in Bavaria, Germany. The descent from 36,241 feet above sea level to 25,306 feet above sea level, a decrease of 10,935 feet, took 11 minutes and covered a distance of 71 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which started 1 mile south-west of Rauschenberg, a location in Hessen, Germany. This phase lasted for 2 minutes and covered a distance of 11 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its descent again, starting 1 mile south-west of Battenberg, a location in Hessen, Germany. The descent from 24,851 feet above sea level to 4,988 feet above sea level, a decrease of 19,864 feet, took 10 minutes and covered a distance of 54 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which started 1 mile east of Luenen, a location in Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany. This phase lasted for 7 minutes and covered a distance of 21 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its descent once more, starting 2 miles south-east of Essen, a location in Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany. The descent from 4,569 feet above sea level to 1,400 feet above sea level, a decrease of 3,170 feet, took 4 minutes and covered a distance of 10 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 23L at EDDL Düsseldorf Airport took place from the north-east, with the aircraft heading 233.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,261 feet above ground level. The landing on runway 23L, which has a length of 2,395 meters, was successful, with a good threshold height. The threshold speed was well above the target speed at 146 knots.
The touchdown point was 207 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 140 knots, which was a little fast. The touchdown rate was firm at -327 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 3.5 meters from the centreline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 4°C temperature and a wind speed of 11 knots at 200°. The crosswind was 6 knots, while the headwind was 9 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,642 meters, which is 69% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very
The Airbus A321 successfully landed on runway 23L at EDDL Düsseldorf Airport, achieving a score of 95.6%. The aircraft approached the runway from the north east, heading 233.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,261 feet above ground level (agl). The landing was executed on a runway with a length of 2,395 meters, and the threshold height was reported as good.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's threshold speed was significantly above the target speed, reaching 146 knots. However, the touchdown point was located 207 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed of 140 knots was slightly faster than desired. The touchdown rate was firm, measuring -327 feet per minute (fpm), which is a typical rate for a commercial airliner.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing included a temperature of 4°C, with a wind speed of 11 knots from a direction of 200°. The crosswind component was 6 knots, while the headwind component was 9 knots. These conditions did not appear to significantly impact the landing, as the aircraft maintained a stable approach and touchdown.
The total landing distance covered by the aircraft was 1,642 meters, which corresponds to 69% of the runway length. This is a relatively short landing distance, indicating that the aircraft was able to touch down and stop within a reasonable distance. The runway rollout alignment was reported as very good, suggesting that the aircraft's brakes were applied smoothly and effectively to bring the aircraft to a stop.
Overall, the landing was executed safely and efficiently, with the aircraft touching down on the runway and coming to a stop within a short distance. While there were some minor deviations from the desired touchdown point and speed, the aircraft's performance was generally good, and the landing was considered successful.
