Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,847 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,847 m of the 3,986 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 725 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft taxiing from the parking area to the runway at EPKK Kraków John Paul II International Airport, a process that took 5 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The departure roll took place on runway 25, and the takeoff distance was 1,238 meters, which accounted for 54% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 154 knots.
As the aircraft took to the skies, it encountered local weather conditions of 6°C temperature and 11-knot headwind with a crosswind of 4 knots. The enroute climb started overhead Morawica, where the aircraft ascended from 1,810 feet above sea level to 26,611 feet above sea level, an increase of 24,801 feet in 14 minutes, covering a distance of 68 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise began 2 miles north-east of Ozimek and lasted for 20 minutes, covering 127 nautical miles. The aircraft then started its descent 1 mile south of Swidnica, descending from 26,416 feet above sea level to 2,851 feet above sea level, a decrease of 23,565 feet in 16 minutes, covering a distance of 68 nautical miles. The enroute level cruise resumed 2 miles south-east of Schmockwitz and lasted for 5 minutes, covering 5 nautical miles.
The final descent started overhead Erkner, where the aircraft descended from 2,849 feet above sea level to 1,437 feet above sea level, a decrease of 1,412 feet in 2 minutes, covering a distance of 6 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final approach to runway 25L at EDDB Berlin Brandenburg Airport from the east, heading 249.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,274 feet above ground level.
The landing took place on runway 25L, which had a length of 3,986 meters. The threshold height was slightly above the target at 59 feet above ground level, and the threshold speed was also slightly above the target at 145 knots. The touchdown point was 307 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 138 knots, which was a little fast. The touchdown rate was fair at -223 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was perfect.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 2°C temperature and 6-knot headwind with a crosswind of 1 knot. The total landing distance was 1,764 meters, which accounted for 44% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was also perfect. The aircraft then taxied to the parking area from the runway, a process that took 3 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile.
The total flight distance was 281 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 66 minutes. The aircraft used 3,199 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A321 successfully landed on runway 25L at EDDB Berlin Brandenburg Airport, achieving a score of 92.4%. The aircraft approached the runway from the east, heading 249.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,274 feet above ground level (agl). The final approach was conducted with a slight deviation in threshold height, being 59 feet agl, which was slightly above the target. Additionally, the threshold speed was also slightly above the target at 145 knots.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft landed 307 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which is a relatively safe distance. However, the touchdown speed of 138 knots was a little fast, indicating that the pilot could have applied more braking or flared the aircraft earlier to achieve a smoother touchdown. The touchdown rate of -223 feet per minute (fpm) was considered fair, suggesting that the aircraft's descent was not excessively steep.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 2°C and a wind speed of 6 knots from 239°. The crosswind component was minimal at 1 knot, while the headwind component was 6 knots, which likely contributed to the aircraft's stable approach and touchdown. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, indicating that the pilot maintained a stable and aligned approach to the runway.
The total landing distance of 1,764 meters was 44% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. The runway rollout alignment was also perfect, suggesting that the pilot maintained control of the aircraft during the rollout phase and avoided any deviations from the centerline. Overall, the landing was considered successful, with the pilot demonstrating good control and management of the aircraft during the approach and touchdown phases.
