MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway. They are the approach's score: the checks passed out of the checks that ran.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 1,826 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 748 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The Bombardier Challenger 350 taxied from the parking area to runway 01 at KTEB Teterboro Airport, a movement that required 39 minutes and covered 10 nm.
During the departure roll on runway 01, the aircraft accelerated to a liftoff speed of 119 kt, using a takeoff distance of 303 m which represented 16 % of the runway length; local weather at the time was 18 °C with a wind of 20 kt from 010°, including a 2 kt crosswind and a 19 kt headwind component.
Climb commenced approximately 1 mile north west of Little Ferry, New Jersey, where the aircraft rose from 986 ft asl to 43 000 ft asl, an altitude gain of 42 014 ft achieved in 17 minutes while covering 102 nm.
The first level cruise segment began 4 miles south of Folsom, New Jersey, and persisted for 100 minutes, during which the aircraft traversed 793 nm.
Descent started about 1 mile south west of Grant-Valkaria, Florida, with the aircraft descending from 42 992 ft asl to 6 111 ft asl, a loss of 36 881 ft over 21 minutes and a distance of 135 nm.
A brief cruise phase followed overhead Brownsville, Florida, lasting 2 minutes and covering 5 nm.
The next descent segment originated over Fountainebleau, Florida, where the aircraft dropped from 5 521 ft asl to 1 940 ft asl, a reduction of 3 581 ft in 5 minutes while traveling 18 nm.
A further level cruise began 7 miles north west of FL31 Mjd STOLport Miami, Florida, lasting 3 minutes and encompassing 12 nm.
On final approach to runway 09R at KTMB Miami Executive Airport, the aircraft descended from 1 269 ft agl to 58 ft agl in 106 seconds, meeting the stabilisation gate criteria.
Landing on runway 09R was executed with a threshold speed of 115 kt; touchdown occurred 421 m beyond the touchdown zone at a speed of 101 kt and a vertical rate of minus 206 fpm, with a lateral deviation of 5.1 m from the centreline. Local conditions were 30 °C with a wind of 5 kt from 299°, including a 3 kt crosswind and a 4 kt tailwind component. The total landing distance measured 1 333 m, representing 73 % of the runway length, and the runway touchdown position was noted as slightly misaligned.
Runway rollout alignment was reported as very good, indicating precise directional control during the deceleration phase.
The aircraft taxied from the runway to the parking area in 2 minutes, covering less than 1 nm.
In total, the flight covered 1 081 nm, required 159 minutes of elapsed time, and consumed 962 kg of fuel.
The Bombardier Challenger 350 executed a stabilised approach at the 1,000 ft gate, with gear, flaps, sink rate, glideslope, centreline and speed all reported within limits. The final approach to runway 09R at KTMB Miami Executive Airport descended from 1,269 ft agl to 58 ft agl in 106 seconds and earned full marks on the stabilisation gates.
At threshold the aircraft maintained a good threshold height and achieved the required threshold speed of 115 kt, meeting the prescribed parameters for the flare segment.
Touchdown occurred 421 m beyond the designated touchdown zone with a good touchdown speed of 101 kt. The vertical speed at touchdown was fair at -206 fpm and the touchdown point was slightly off centreline by 5.1 m.
Rollout covered a total landing distance of 1,333 m, representing 73 % of the 1,826 m runway, and the alignment during rollout was very good. Ambient conditions were 30 °C with wind 5 kt from 299°, including a 3 kt crosswind component and a 4 kt tailwind component.
To tighten the touchdown point, aim to arrest the descent within the touchdown zone rather than beyond it, and refine lateral tracking to keep the aircraft within a few metres of the centreline throughout the flare and touchdown phases.
