Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 5,410 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,410 ft of the 7,600 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 2,263 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 14 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-700, then departed from runway 34R at KJAN Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport in Jackson, Mississippi. The takeoff distance was 3,815 feet, which was 45% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 145 knots.
As the aircraft climbed out of the airport, it began its enroute climb 1 mile north of KJAN, rising from an altitude of 1,306 feet above sea level to 37,230 feet above sea level, an increase of 35,924 feet in 16 minutes and covering a distance of 93 nautical miles. The local weather conditions at the time of departure were a temperature of 58 degrees Fahrenheit.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 4 miles east of Jonesville, Louisiana, and lasted for 14 minutes, covering a distance of 99 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent 5 miles southwest of KDRI Beauregard Regional Airport in DeRidder, Louisiana, descending from 37,195 feet above sea level to 3,007 feet above sea level, a decrease of 34,187 feet in 22 minutes and covering a distance of 127 nautical miles.
The aircraft entered another level cruise phase, this time starting 3 miles northeast of Missouri City, Texas, and lasting for 2 minutes, covering a distance of 6 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final descent 2 miles southeast of Fifth Street, Texas, descending from 3,009 feet above sea level to 1,344 feet above sea level, a decrease of 1,666 feet in 4 minutes and covering a distance of 10 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 04 at KHOU William P Hobby Airport was made from the southwest, with a heading of 44.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,291 feet above ground level. The landing was made on runway 04, which had a length of 7,600 feet. The threshold height at 58 feet above ground level was slightly above the target, and the threshold speed was also slightly above the target at 133 knots.
The touchdown point was 906 feet beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 122 knots, which was a little fast. However, the touchdown rate was good at -164 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 14 feet from the centreline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 61 degrees Fahrenheit, with a wind of 4 knots at 200 degrees. The crosswind was 1 knot, and the tailwind was 3 knots.
The total landing distance was 5,153 feet, which was 68% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 30 feet from the centreline. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 3 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile.
The total flight distance was 343 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 70 minutes. The aircraft used 5,709 pounds of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 737-700 aircraft successfully landed at KHOU William P Hobby Airport, with a final approach score of 93.7%. The aircraft was approaching the runway from the southwest, heading 44.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,291 feet above ground level (agl). The landing was conducted on runway 04, which has a length of 7,600 feet.
Upon reaching the threshold, the aircraft's height was slightly above the target at 58 feet agl, and the speed was also slightly above the target at 133 knots. The touchdown point was located 906 feet beyond the touchdown zone, indicating that the aircraft landed slightly further down the runway than intended. The touchdown speed of 122 knots was a little fast, but the touchdown rate of -164 feet per minute (fpm) was considered good.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were relatively calm, with a temperature of 61°F and a wind speed of 4 knots from a direction of 200°. The crosswind component was minimal at 1 knot, while the tailwind component was 3 knots. These conditions likely contributed to the slightly above-target speed and height at the threshold.
The total landing distance of 5,153 feet was 68% of the runway length, indicating that the aircraft was able to stop within a reasonable distance. However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 14 feet from the centreline, and the runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned by 30 feet from the centreline. These minor deviations suggest that the aircraft may have required some correction during the landing roll to maintain alignment with the runway centreline. Overall, the landing was considered successful, with a high score and minimal deviations from the intended touchdown point and runway alignment.
