Improve the pattern downwind leg
Spacing cues are relative to your eyepoint, so two simmers with different FOV settings following the same wingtip cue fly patterns half a mile different in width, and a wide FOV compresses depth so the runway on base looks further away than it is, biasing you towards a late turn. Pick a camera position and FOV, save it, and never change it, because every judgement you calibrate is calibrated to that picture.

One stabilised approach gate for a circuit: six checks at the point nearest 500 ft above the runway after the base turn. The 1,000 ft gate is an instrument-approach check and does not apply.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 1,544 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 136 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a departure roll from runway 21 at CYDA Dawson City Airport, where the Cessna C172 took off with a takeoff distance of 328 meters, which accounted for 21% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 52 knots, and the local weather conditions were characterized by a temperature of 15 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 1 knot at 269 degrees.
As the aircraft entered the left-hand pattern, it took less than 1 nautical mile to complete the turn in 39 seconds. The subsequent crosswind turn was also completed in less than 1 nautical mile in 27 seconds. The pattern downwind turn covered a distance of 1 nautical mile, with an angle to the runway of 64.5 degrees. The downwind leg itself covered a distance of 2 nautical miles in 67 seconds.
The base leg turn, which covered a distance of 2 nautical miles, had an angle to the runway of 41.5 degrees. The base leg itself was completed in less than 1 nautical mile in 25 seconds. The final turn, which was also less than 1 nautical mile, was completed in 22 seconds. The final approach to runway 21 was made from the north-east, with a heading of 229.0 degrees at 1 nautical mile and 624 feet above ground level.
The landing on runway 21 was successful, with a touchdown distance of 134 meters, which was 17% of the runway length. The touchdown speed was 43 knots, which was good, but the touchdown rate was fair at -266 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centreline by 8.1 meters.
The total landing distance was 269 meters, and the runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned from the centreline by 8.0 meters. The taxiing to the parking area from the runway took 1 minute and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 7 nautical miles, and the flight used 3 kilograms of fuel, taking a total of 8 minutes to complete.
The Cessna C172 aircraft successfully landed at CYDA Dawson City Airport, achieving a score of 95.9%. The final approach was conducted from the north east, heading 229.0° at 1 nm and 624 ft above ground level (agl). The aircraft touched down on runway 21, which has a length of 1,544 m.
The threshold height was reported as good, indicating that the aircraft was at the correct height as it approached the runway. However, the threshold speed was slightly below the target speed of 50 kt. Despite this, the touchdown distance was good at 134 m, and the touchdown speed of 43 kt was also within acceptable limits.
The touchdown rate of -266 fpm was considered fair, suggesting that the aircraft could have been brought down to the ground more smoothly. The runway touchdown position was misaligned by 8.1 m from the centreline, which may have contributed to the slightly misaligned runway rollout alignment of 8.0 m from the centreline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were relatively calm, with a temperature of 15 °C and a wind speed of 1 kt from 270°. This resulted in a negligible crosswind and headwind component, making the landing conditions favorable. The total landing distance of 269 m was only 17% of the runway length, indicating that the aircraft was able to land safely and efficiently.
Overall, the landing was successful, and the aircraft was able to come to a stop within a short distance. However, there were some minor issues with the touchdown speed and rate, as well as the alignment of the runway touchdown and rollout positions.
