Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 1,999 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 344 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 10 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft, an Airbus A321, then departed from runway 27R at EDDV Hannover Airport. The takeoff distance was 1,823 meters, which accounted for 57% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 178 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 23 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 16 knots from a direction of 240 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 9 knots and a headwind of 13 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting 1 mile west of EDDV Hannover Airport and ascending from an altitude of 1,210 feet above sea level to 20,172 feet above sea level, an increase of 18,961 feet in 10 minutes and covering a distance of 47 nautical miles.
Following the initial climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which lasted for 2 minutes and covered a distance of 10 nautical miles. This cruise phase started 2 miles northwest of Natendorf, a town in the state of Lower Saxony, Germany. The aircraft then began another climb phase, this time from 20,172 feet to 36,527 feet above sea level, an increase of 16,355 feet in 14 minutes and covering a distance of 96 nautical miles. This climb phase started overhead Bardowick, another town in Lower Saxony, Germany.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which lasted for 113 minutes and covered a distance of 854 nautical miles. This cruise phase started 5 miles southeast of Augustenborg, a town in the Region Syddanmark, Denmark. The aircraft then began its descent phase, starting 13 miles east of Harstad, a town in the county of Troms og Finnmark, Norway. The descent phase took 17 minutes and covered a distance of 72 nautical miles, during which the aircraft descended from 35,911 feet above sea level to 1,778 feet above sea level.
The final approach to runway 18 at ENTC Tromsø Airport, Langnes was made from the north, with a heading of 194.0 degrees at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,740 feet above ground level. The landing was made on runway 18, which had a length of 1,999 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was slightly above the target speed at 141 knots.
The touchdown distance was good at 342 meters, but the touchdown speed was a little fast at 135 knots. The touchdown rate was heavy at -627 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was very good, and the runway rollout alignment was perfect. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 11 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 2 knots from a direction of 20 degrees, resulting in a crosswind of 0 knots and a tailwind of 2 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,129 meters, which accounted for 56% of the runway. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 2 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 1,088 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 167 minutes. The aircraft used a total of 8,029 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A321 successfully landed at ENTC Tromsø Airport, Langnes, with a score of 94.8%. The aircraft approached the runway from the north, heading 194.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,740 feet above ground level (agl). The final approach was executed with precision, and the aircraft landed safely on runway 18, which has a length of 1,999 meters.
The threshold height was good, indicating that the aircraft was at the correct altitude as it approached the runway. However, the threshold speed was slightly above the target speed of 140 kt, which is a minor deviation. The touchdown distance of 342 meters was within the acceptable range, demonstrating good control and precision during the landing.
Despite the good touchdown distance, the touchdown speed of 135 kt was a little fast, which may have contributed to the heavy touchdown rate of -627 feet per minute (fpm). A heavier touchdown rate can put additional stress on the aircraft's landing gear and may affect the overall safety of the landing. Nevertheless, the runway touchdown alignment was very good, indicating that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were favorable, with a temperature of 11°C and a gentle wind of 2 kt at 20°. The crosswind was negligible, and the tailwind was minimal at 2 kt. These conditions contributed to a smooth and stable landing.
The total landing distance of 1,129 meters was 56% of the runway length, which is within the acceptable range. The runway rollout alignment was perfect, indicating that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway after touchdown and was able to maintain control during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing was successful, and the aircraft was able to touch down safely on the runway. While there were some minor deviations from the target speeds and rates, the overall performance of the aircraft was good, and the landing was executed with precision and control.
