Slow down before tight turns
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
At the 500 ft gate: speed below the reference speed.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,127 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 362 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 11 minutes and covered a distance of 5 nautical miles. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-800, then departed from runway 07C at Frankfurt Airport (EDDF), located in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. The takeoff distance was 1,243 meters, which accounted for 31% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 160 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 4 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 8 knots at a direction of 30 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 5 knots and a headwind of 6 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting overhead Frankfurt Airport and ascending from an altitude of 1,416 feet above sea level to 31,293 feet above sea level, an increase of 29,876 feet in 22 minutes, covering a distance of 116 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started overhead Golmbach, a location in Lower Saxony, Germany, and lasted for 69 minutes, covering a distance of 512 nautical miles. The aircraft then began another enroute climb, this time starting 10 miles north of Grua, a location in Viken, Norway, and ascending from 31,822 feet above sea level to 35,682 feet above sea level, an increase of 3,860 feet in 5 minutes, covering a distance of 41 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise resumed 4 miles east of Lillehammer, a location in Innlandet, Norway, and lasted for 120 minutes, covering a distance of 899 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting at a latitude of 76.0599848 and a longitude of 14.3674406, and descending from 34,529 feet above sea level to 1,152 feet above sea level, a decrease of 33,377 feet in 26 minutes, covering a distance of 133 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 10 at Svalbard Airport (ENSB), Longyear, was made from the west, heading 106.0 degrees at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,070 feet above ground level. The landing was successful, with a touchdown speed of 128 knots and a touchdown rate of -94 feet per minute. The touchdown distance was 363 meters, and the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 3.1 meters from the centerline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 2 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 5 knots at a direction of 130 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 2 knots and a headwind of 4 knots. The total landing distance was 1,219 meters, which accounted for 57% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was perfect, and the taxiing to the parking from the runway took only 2 minutes, covering a distance of less than 1 nautical mile.
The total flight distance was 1,711 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 253 minutes. The aircraft used a total of 11,647 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 737-800 aircraft successfully landed at ENSB Svalbard Airport, Longyear, with a score of 99.9%. The final approach to runway 10 was conducted from the west, heading 106.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,070 feet above ground level.
The aircraft touched down on the runway with a good threshold height, and the threshold speed was also satisfactory at 135 knots. The touchdown distance was within acceptable limits at 363 meters, and the touchdown speed was 128 knots, which is also considered good. The most impressive aspect of the landing was the touchdown rate, which was an excellent -94 feet per minute, indicating a smooth and controlled descent.
However, there was a slight deviation in the runway touchdown position, with the aircraft being 3.1 meters off-centerline. This minor discrepancy did not seem to affect the overall performance of the landing. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were relatively calm, with a temperature of 2°C, a wind speed of 5 knots at 130°, and a crosswind of 2 knots and a headwind of 4 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,219 meters, which is 57% of the runway length. This is a relatively short landing distance, indicating that the aircraft was able to touch down and come to a stop within a reasonable distance. The runway rollout alignment was perfect, with the aircraft maintaining a straight path after touchdown. Overall, the landing was considered successful, with the aircraft performing well in the challenging Arctic environment.
