Arrival
Time the turn onto base by bank angle so you roll out at the proper 45 degree angle to the runway, not sooner or later.
What happened: The turn from downwind onto base was rolled out at the wrong angle to the runway rather than the intended 45 degree join.
Watch for: Watch your angle to the runway through the base turn, aiming to roll out at 45 degrees.
Bank angle in the pattern is conventionally kept to 20 to 30 degrees, and the base-to-final turn is where that convention earns its keep. Stall speed rises with bank because the wing must produce more lift in a turn. Roughly 7 per cent higher at 30 degrees, about 19 per cent at 45, and around 40 per cent at 60. At 65 kt on base you don't have much margin to spend steepening a turn to salvage an overshoot.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate for a circuit: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate is an instrument-approach check and does not apply.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 1,866 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 280 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone.
The rest of the report
The Commander 114 taxied to runway 23 at EGPE Inverness Airport and began the departure roll; the takeoff distance recorded was 392 m, equal to 21 % of the runway, and rotation was achieved at 75 kt. Local conditions were temperature 15 °C, wind 2 kt from 270°, with a 1 kt cross-wind component and a 2 kt head-wind component.
After lift-off the aircraft entered a left-hand pattern for runway 23, covering 1 nm in 26 seconds on the entry leg.
The subsequent left-hand cross-wind leg was less than 1 nm and was completed in 17 seconds.
The down-wind turn was flown at a 45-degree angle to the runway, spanning 2 nm and measured at 54.3°.
The down-wind leg itself extended 2 nm and was flown in 53 seconds.
The base-turn, also at a 45-degree angle, covered 1 nm with an angle of 71.4°.
The base leg was less than 1 nm and required 40 seconds to complete.
The final turn to align with the runway was less than 1 nm and took 20 seconds.
Landing was made on runway 23, whose length is 1,866 m; the threshold speed was slightly above target at 73 kt. Touchdown occurred 280 m from the threshold at 57 kt with a descent rate of minus 46 fpm, and runway touchdown alignment was perfect. Total landing distance was 444 m, representing 24 % of the runway.
Runway rollout alignment remained perfect throughout the deceleration phase.
In total the flight covered 8 nm, lasted 5 minutes, and used 2 kg of fuel.
