Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,395 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 466 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Aircraft departed from Aalborg Airport, Denmark, on runway 26R, a 2,395-meter-long runway. The takeoff roll began at 151 kt, and the aircraft lifted off after covering 958 meters, or 36% of the runway length. The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 8 °C, with a gentle wind blowing at 4 kt from a direction of 140 °. The crosswind component was minimal, at 3 kt, while the tailwind component was 2 kt.
As the aircraft climbed out of Aalborg, it began its enroute climb, which started 1 mile west of the airport and continued for 18 minutes, covering a distance of 112 nm. The aircraft ascended from an initial altitude of 1,064 ft asl to a cruising altitude of 35,927 ft asl, a vertical gain of 34,863 ft. Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which lasted for 23 minutes and covered a distance of 158 nm. The cruise phase was initiated 1 mile west of Arup, Denmark. Subsequently, the aircraft began its enroute descent, which started 2 miles northeast of Asendorf, Germany, and continued for 23 minutes, covering a distance of 126 nm. The aircraft descended from a cruising altitude of 35,760 ft asl to a final approach altitude of 1,472 ft asl.
The final approach to runway 23L at Düsseldorf Airport was initiated from the northeast, with the aircraft heading 233.0 ° at 4 nm and 1,334 ft agl. The landing was executed at a threshold speed of 121 kt, with a touchdown speed of 117 kt. The touchdown distance was 454 meters, or 19% of the runway length, and the runway touchdown alignment was very good. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 17 °C, with a gentle wind blowing at 2 kt from a direction of 359 °. The crosswind component was minimal, at 1 kt, while the tailwind component was 1 kt. The total landing distance was 1,321 meters, or 55% of the runway length. Following the landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, covering a distance of less than 1 nm in 4 minutes. The total flight distance was 406 nm, and the aircraft used 3,940 kg of fuel during the flight, which lasted for 79 minutes.
The final approach to runway 23L at EDDL Düsseldorf Airport from the north east was executed with a heading of 233.0° at 4 nm and 1,334 ft above ground level. The approach quality was satisfactory, with a threshold height of 74 ft above ground level, which was well above the target. The threshold speed was good at 121 kt, indicating a well-controlled descent.
As the aircraft touched down on the runway, the touchdown distance was good at 454 m, and the touchdown speed was also good at 117 kt. However, the touchdown rate was very hard at -580 fpm, which may indicate a slightly aggressive approach. The runway touchdown alignment was very good, with the aircraft centered on the runway. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 17 °C and a wind of 2 kt at 359°, contributed to a relatively calm landing environment, with a crosswind of 1 kt and a tailwind of 1 kt.
The total landing distance was 1,321 m, which was 55% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating a smooth and controlled deceleration. Overall, the landing performance was good, with a score of 89.5%. The approach and touchdown characteristics were satisfactory, but the hard touchdown rate may require further attention to optimize the approach.
