Work on the flare
See Arrival Landing
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 1,835 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 489 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing from Cork Airport, the Airbus A321 began its journey by taxiing from the parking area to the runway, a process that took 7 minutes and covered a distance of 3 nautical miles. As the aircraft lined up on runway 34, it was met with a local weather condition of 6°C temperature and a wind of 14 knots at 280 degrees, resulting in a crosswind of 12 knots and a headwind of 7 knots. The takeoff roll commenced, and the aircraft lifted off the ground at a speed of 151 knots, utilizing 991 meters, or 47% of the runway, to achieve liftoff.
As the aircraft climbed away from Cork Airport, it began its enroute climb, ascending from 1,439 feet above sea level to 36,736 feet above sea level, an increase of 35,297 feet, in 22 minutes and covering a distance of 150 nautical miles. The climb phase was followed by a level cruise, which started 19 miles west of Holyhead, Anglesey, Wales, and lasted for 44 minutes, covering 366 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting 2 miles west of Moustier, Wallonia, Belgium, and descending from 36,985 feet above sea level to 3,952 feet above sea level, a decrease of 33,033 feet, in 27 minutes and covering 162 nautical miles. The descent was followed by a brief level cruise, which started 1 mile northeast of Spicheren, Grand Est, France, and lasted for 6 minutes, covering 24 nautical miles.
As the aircraft approached its destination, Saarbrücken Airport, it began its final approach to runway 27 from the east, heading 267.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,342 feet above ground level. The landing was executed on the 1,835-meter runway, with the threshold height at 68 feet above ground level being above the target. The touchdown point was 71 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 127 knots, which was a little fast. The touchdown rate was good at -180 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was very good. The total landing distance was 1,077 meters, or 59% of the runway. Following the landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, a process that took 5 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 716 nautical miles, taking 115 minutes, and the aircraft used 5,613 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The final approach to runway 27 at EDDR Saarbrücken Airport from the east was conducted with a heading of 267.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,342 feet above ground level. The approach quality was satisfactory, with the threshold height at 68 feet above ground level being above the target. However, the threshold speed was good at 133 knots, indicating a well-executed approach.
The aircraft touched down 71 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 127 knots, which was a little fast. Nevertheless, the touchdown rate of -180 feet per minute was good, indicating a controlled descent. The runway touchdown alignment was very good, demonstrating excellent pilot control and situational awareness. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 10°C and a wind of 19 knots at 180°, presented a moderate crosswind component of 19 knots, which was effectively managed by the pilots.
The total landing distance of 1,077 meters was 59% of the runway length, indicating a relatively short landing distance. The runway rollout alignment was very good, demonstrating excellent control and coordination during the rollout phase. Overall, the landing was scored 92.0%, reflecting a high level of proficiency and adherence to standard operating procedures.
