Flight Score
Smooth the climb
Pull to 15 degrees at one rate and you get a clean liftoff, pull to the same 15 degrees at twice the rate and you get an overshoot, a push, and an oscillation through the first few hundred feet. The type-general rule of thumb is a rotation rate of about 2 to 3 degrees per second, which means roughly five to seven seconds from starting the pull to reaching the initial climb attitude of around 15 degrees nose-up. Count it out loud during your next takeoff and you will almost certainly discover you have been rotating in two seconds flat.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 2,001 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 2,001 m of the 3,195 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 625 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft taxiing from the parking area to the runway at Trenton Mercer Airport, taking 6 minutes and covering a distance of 2 nautical miles. The departure roll took place on runway 34, with a takeoff distance of 882 meters, which was 60% of the runway length. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 138 knots.
As the aircraft climbed to its cruising altitude, it encountered local weather conditions of -14°C and a wind speed of 0 knots at 225 degrees. The aircraft climbed from an altitude of 1,193 feet above sea level to 32,526 feet above sea level, an increase of 31,333 feet, in 18 minutes and covering a distance of 88 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started 1 mile south of Gratz, Pennsylvania, and lasted for 18 minutes, covering a distance of 106 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its descent from 32,165 feet above sea level to 27,977 feet above sea level, a decrease of 4,188 feet, in 4 minutes and covering a distance of 31 nautical miles.
The aircraft then leveled off at 2 miles south west of Machias, New York, for a brief period of 2 minutes, covering less than 1 nautical mile. The descent from 27,977 feet above sea level to 1,762 feet above sea level, a decrease of 26,215 feet, took 26 minutes and covered a distance of 92 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 23 at Toronto Lester B. Pearson International Airport took place from the north east, with the aircraft heading at 226.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,206 feet above ground level. The landing took place on runway 23, which was 3,195 meters long, with the threshold height at 57 feet above ground level being slightly above the target.
The touchdown point was 204 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with the touchdown speed being slightly above the target at 143 knots. The touchdown rate was smooth at -111 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was perfect. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were -9°C and a wind speed of 14 knots at 210 degrees, with a crosswind of 4 knots and a headwind of 13 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,916 meters, which was 60% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was also perfect. The aircraft then taxied to the parking area from the runway, taking 6 minutes and covering a distance of 1 nautical mile.
The total flight distance was 326 nautical miles, taking 79 minutes, and the aircraft used 3,295 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A320 successfully landed at Toronto Lester B. Pearson International Airport (CYYZ) on runway 23, achieving a score of 94.7%. The aircraft approached the runway from the northeast, heading 226.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,206 feet above ground level (agl).
During the final approach, the aircraft maintained a smooth descent, with a touchdown rate of -111 feet per minute (fpm). The touchdown point was 204 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, which is slightly outside the optimal landing area. However, the runway touchdown alignment was perfect, indicating that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway.
The landing speed was slightly above the target at 143 knots (kn), and the touchdown speed was a little fast at 138 kn. Despite this, the touchdown was smooth, and the aircraft maintained perfect runway rollout alignment.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of -9°C, with a wind speed of 14 kn from 210°. This resulted in a crosswind of 4 kn and a headwind of 13 kn, which the aircraft successfully managed during the landing.
The total landing distance was 1,916 meters, which is 60% of the runway length. This indicates that the aircraft had sufficient runway remaining for a safe stop, even with a slightly longer than optimal landing distance. Overall, the landing was successful, and the aircraft scored well on its approach and landing performance.
