Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
At the 1,000 ft gate: sink rate above what the glideslope needed.
At the 500 ft gate: sink rate above what the glideslope needed.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 2,221 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 2,221 m of the 4,113 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 891 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The Airbus A320 taxied from the parking area to runway 13R at KJFK John F Kennedy International Airport, covering 6 nm in 13 minutes.
During the departure roll on runway 13R, the aircraft used 2,297 m of runway, representing 61 % of the available length, and lifted off at 174 kt. Ambient conditions were 27 °C with a wind of 10 kt from 180°, a cross-wind component of 8 kt and a head-wind component of 5 kt.
Climb commenced overhead Inwood, New York, with the airplane ascending from 1,026 ft asl to 33,041 ft asl, a gain of 32,014 ft achieved in 19 minutes while covering 125 nm.
Level cruise began 12 mi south-east of Avalon, New Jersey, and continued for 304 minutes, during which 2,340 nm were flown.
Descent was initiated 34 mi north-west of Cotacachi, Provincia de Imbabura, Ecuador, with the aircraft descending from 33,584 ft asl to 9,307 ft asl, a loss of 24,278 ft in 14 minutes over a distance of 88 nm.
The final approach to runway 36 at SEQM Mariscal Sucre International Airport was flown from the south on a heading of 358.0°, intercepting the glide path at 4 nm and 1,506 ft agl.
Landing on runway 36 was performed on a runway 4,099 m long; the threshold height of 61 ft agl was above target and the threshold speed of 141 kt was well above target. Touchdown occurred 453 m beyond the touchdown zone at a speed of 129 kt, with a firm touchdown rate of minus 374 fpm and a lateral deviation of 4.0 m from the centreline.
The total landing distance recorded was 2,118 m, representing 52 % of the runway, and the rollout alignment was judged very good.
After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area in 6 minutes, covering less than 1 nm.
In total, the flight covered 2,567 nm, required 356 minutes of airborne time, and consumed 14,508 kg of fuel.
The Airbus A320 completed the final approach to runway 36 at SEQM Mariscal Sucre International Airport from the south on a heading of 358.0° at 4 nm and 1,506 ft agl, with local temperature 13 °C, wind 5 kt from 090°, a 5 kt cross-wind component and no head-wind.
At threshold the aircraft was 61 ft agl, which was above target, and the threshold speed was 141 kt, well above target.
Touchdown occurred 453 m beyond the touchdown zone with a speed of 129 kt, which was a little fast, and the touchdown rate was firm at minus 374 fpm. The touchdown point was slightly misaligned by 4.0 m from the centreline.
The rollout covered a total landing distance of 2,118 m, representing 52 % of the 4,099 m runway, and runway rollout alignment was very good.
To refine the performance, reduce the approach and threshold speeds toward the target values to avoid excess speed at touchdown, and adjust the flare timing to place the touchdown within the designated zone.
