Fixing the bounce
Fast at the threshold, normal flare, and the runway seems to refuse the aircraft. The instinctive fix - pushing it on - causes the next one. A fast aircraft forced onto the runway touches nosewheel-first or nearly so. The tell is a touchdown that feels soft followed by a bounce that steepens. Pilots fix the bounce recovery; the cause was the 10 knots at the threshold.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 970 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 970 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 364 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a departure roll from runway 14 at EGHR Goodwood Aerodrome, where the aircraft, a SUPER DECATHLON, successfully took off after covering 439 meters, which is 45% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 27 knots. At the time of departure, the local weather conditions were characterized by a temperature of 15 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 1 knot from a direction of 270 degrees, resulting in a negligible crosswind and tailwind.
Following the departure, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which lasted for just 1 minute and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. This brief cruise phase took place overhead Westhampnett in West Sussex, England.
The flight then proceeded to a go-around maneuver from runway 14 at EGHR Goodwood Aerodrome, where the aircraft was at an altitude of 0 feet above ground level. This was followed by a final approach to the same runway from the north-west, with the aircraft heading in a direction of 153.0 degrees and at an altitude of 241 feet above ground level.
The landing on runway 14 was successful, with the aircraft touching down at a speed of 57 knots and a touchdown distance of 361 meters. The touchdown speed was well within the target range, and the touchdown rate was smooth at -138 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, and the local weather conditions remained the same as before, with a temperature of 15 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 1 knot from a direction of 270 degrees.
The total landing distance was 768 meters, which is 79% of the runway length. However, the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 24.4 meters from the centerline. The total flight distance was 2 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 6 minutes. Notably, the aircraft used no fuel during the flight.
The SUPER DECATHLON aircraft successfully landed at EGHR Goodwood Aerodrome, achieving a score of 76.2%. The final approach to runway 14 was initiated from the north-west, with a heading of 153.0° at an altitude of 241 feet above ground level (agl) and a distance of 0 nautical miles from the runway.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down on the runway with a speed of 57 knots, which was considered good. The touchdown distance of 361 meters was also satisfactory. The landing rate was smooth, with a descent rate of -138 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, indicating that the pilot had successfully aligned the aircraft with the runway centerline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 15°C and a wind speed of 1 knot from a direction of 270°. This resulted in a negligible crosswind and tailwind component, making the landing conditions ideal.
However, there were some minor issues with the landing. The threshold speed was well above the target speed, indicating that the pilot may have been a bit too aggressive with the approach. Additionally, the runway rollout alignment was misaligned by 24.4 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the pilot's control inputs during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing was considered good, with a total landing distance of 768 meters, which was 79% of the runway length. While there were some minor issues, the pilot's overall performance was satisfactory, and the aircraft was safely brought to a stop on the runway.
