Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

One stabilised approach gate for a circuit: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate is an instrument-approach check and does not apply.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 1,866 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 172 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The 0.28 G arrival is the firm side of smooth.
The rest of the report
The Noorduyn Norseman taxied to runway 23 at EGPE Inverness Airport and commenced the take-off roll, covering 586 m which represented 31 % of the available runway. Liftoff was achieved at 78 kt. Ambient conditions were 16 °C with a wind of 2 kt from 270°, including a 1 kt cross-wind component and a 2 kt head-wind component.
The aircraft entered a left-hand pattern from runway 23, flying a distance of less than 1 nm in 60 seconds.
A left-hand pattern cross-wind leg followed, also less than 1 nm in length and completed in 24 seconds.
During the downwind turn the aircraft described a 2 nm arc, turning to an angle of 70.6° relative to the runway centreline.
The downwind leg itself extended 2 nm and was flown in 52 seconds.
The base-leg turn covered 1 nm with a turn angle of 55.7° to the runway heading.
The subsequent base leg was less than 1 nm and lasted 33 seconds.
The final turn into the approach was under 1 nm and required 26 seconds to complete.
Landing was executed on runway 23, whose total length is 1,866 m. The threshold speed was recorded at 77 kt, while touchdown occurred 169 m down the runway at 67 kt with a descent rate of minus 54 fpm. Alignment on touchdown was reported as very good and the same weather conditions as departure prevailed.
Rollout distance measured 612 m, representing 33 % of the runway, and alignment during the rollout was described as perfect.
In total the flight covered 6 nm, required approximately 5 minutes, and consumed 9 kg of fuel.
The aircraft touched down on runway 23 at EGPE Inverness Airport, whose paved length is 1,866 m. The threshold height was reported as good, while the threshold speed was well above the target at 77 kt. Ambient temperature was 16 °C with a wind of 2 kt from 270°, including a 1 kt cross-wind component and a 2 kt head-wind component.
At touchdown the aircraft was aligned very well with the centreline and landed 169 m beyond the threshold. The touchdown speed was 67 kt, the vertical rate was excellent at minus 54 fpm, and the total landing distance measured 612 m, representing 33 % of the available runway.
During rollout the aircraft maintained perfect alignment with the runway centreline, completing the roll-out without deviation.
The high overall score of 93.6 % indicates solid performance; the primary area for refinement is the excess threshold speed, which should be reduced toward the target value to optimise energy management while preserving the excellent touchdown and rollout characteristics.
