Slow down before tight turns
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with six checks at 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway. They are the approach's score: the checks passed out of the checks that ran.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 2,251 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 2,251 m of the 3,203 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 496 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The 1.71 G arrival is the firm side of smooth.
The rest of the report
The Boeing 737-800 taxied from the parking area to runway 26 at FYWH Hosea Kutako International Airport in 8 minutes, covering a distance of 2 nm.
During the departure roll on runway 26, the aircraft used a takeoff distance of 2,104 m, representing 46 % of the runway length, and lifted off at 155 kt. Ambient conditions were 22 °C with a wind of 4 kt from 269°, including a 2 kt cross-wind component and a 4 kt head-wind.
The first en-route climb commenced 1 mile south-west of FYWH, climbing from 6,616 ft asl to 13,975 ft asl - a gain of 7,360 ft - in 4 minutes while covering 18 nm.
A short level cruise began 9 miles north-west of FY4C Stolzenfeld and lasted 2 minutes, during which the aircraft travelled 9 nm.
A second climb started 2 miles south-west of FY4C Stolzenfeld, ascending from 14,644 ft asl to 29,993 ft asl - an increase of 15,349 ft - in 8 minutes and covering 57 nm.
The subsequent cruise segment originated 1 mile east of FY2A Lekkerwater, persisted for 74 minutes and spanned 532 nm.
Descent began 16 miles east of FACI Citrusdal Airport, descending from 29,313 ft asl to 1,619 ft asl - a loss of 27,694 ft - in 24 minutes and traversing 115 nm.
On final approach to runway 19 at FACT Cape Town International Airport, the aircraft descended from 1,527 ft agl to 82 ft agl in 103 seconds and was recorded as having scored on the stabilisation gates.
Landing on runway 19 (runway length 3,203 m) featured a good threshold height and a threshold speed of 142 kt. Touchdown occurred 67 m beyond the touchdown zone at a speed of 137 kt, with a touchdown rate of minus 285 fpm and a runway touchdown position offset 7.3 m from the centreline. Weather at the time was 17 °C with a wind of 7 kt from 230°, including a 6 kt cross-wind and a 3 kt head-wind.
The total landing distance recorded was 2,157 m, equivalent to 67 % of the runway, and the rollout alignment was noted as being 8.0 m off the centreline.
After exiting the runway, the aircraft taxied to the parking area in 5 minutes, covering 1 nm.
Overall, the flight covered 743 nm, required 126 minutes of airborne time, and consumed 5,040 kg of fuel.
The Boeing 737-800 approached runway 19 at Cape Town International Airport in a stabilised configuration at the 1,000 ft gate, with gear, flaps, sink rate, glideslope, centreline and speed all within limits. Descent proceeded from 1,527 ft agl to 82 ft agl in 103 seconds, and the approach was scored on the stabilisation gates. Local weather was 17 °C with wind 7 kt from 230°, including a 6 kt cross-wind component and a 3 kt head-wind.
At threshold the aircraft maintained a good threshold speed of 142 kt and crossed the runway threshold 67 m beyond the touchdown zone. Touchdown speed was good at 137 kt.
Touchdown occurred with a fair rate of minus 285 fpm and the wheel-track was slightly misaligned by 7.3 m from the centreline.
Rollout continued with a total landing distance of 2,157 m, representing 67 % of the 3,203 m runway, and the aircraft remained slightly misaligned by 8.0 m from the centreline during rollout.
With a score of 92.0 % the landing was solid; refining lateral control to keep touchdown and rollout within 2 m of the centreline will tighten alignment. Targeting a touchdown rate closer to zero fpm will further smooth the landing.
