MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Slow down before tight turns
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,608 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,608 m of the 4,265 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 393 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 7 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-MAX8, then departed from runway 36 at Winnipeg / James Armstrong Richardson International Airport, also known as CYWG. The takeoff distance was 1,130 meters, which accounted for 34% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 157 knots, and the local weather conditions at the time of departure were a temperature of -9 °C, with a wind speed of 10 knots at 355°.
As the aircraft took off, it began its enroute climb, which started overhead CYWG. The climb took the aircraft from an altitude of 1,805 feet above sea level to 35,900 feet above sea level, an increase of 34,094 feet in 14 minutes, covering a distance of 113 nautical miles. The enroute climb was followed by a level cruise, which started 11 miles north of Rivers, Manitoba, and lasted for 30 minutes, covering a distance of 414 nautical miles.
The enroute descent began 22 miles northwest of Oyen Municipal Airport, also known as CED3, and took the aircraft from an altitude of 35,799 feet above sea level to 4,720 feet above sea level, a decrease of 31,079 feet in 19 minutes, covering a distance of 116 nautical miles. The final approach to runway 17L at Calgary International Airport, also known as CYYC, was made from the north, heading 178.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,159 feet above ground level.
The landing on runway 17L was successful, with a touchdown distance of 392 meters, which was 36% of the runway length. The threshold speed was good at 149 knots, but the touchdown speed was a little fast at 144 knots. The touchdown rate was fair at -280 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was very good. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of -1 °C, with a wind speed of 2 knots at 220°.
After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking from the runway, which took 2 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 652 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 73 minutes. The aircraft used a total of 4,061 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 737-MAX8 aircraft successfully landed at Calgary International Airport (CYYC) on runway 17L. The final approach was executed from the north, with the aircraft heading 178.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,159 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft maintained a good threshold height, indicating a stable and controlled descent.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft achieved a threshold speed of 149 knots, which is within the acceptable range. However, the touchdown speed of 144 knots was slightly faster than desired, suggesting that the pilots may have been able to maintain a more optimal speed during the landing. The touchdown rate of -280 feet per minute (fpm) was fair, indicating a moderate rate of descent.
The runway touchdown alignment was very good, indicating that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway centerline at the moment of touchdown. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of -1°C and a wind speed of 2 knots from 220°. The crosswind component was minimal at 1 knot, while the headwind component was 2 knots, which likely contributed to the aircraft's stable approach and touchdown.
The total landing distance of 1,533 meters was 36% of the runway length, indicating a relatively short landing distance. The runway rollout alignment was also very good, suggesting that the pilots maintained control of the aircraft during the rollout phase and avoided any deviations from the centerline.
Overall, the landing was successful, with the aircraft achieving a high score of 99.3%. The pilots demonstrated good control and management of the aircraft during the approach, touchdown, and rollout phases, resulting in a safe and efficient landing.
