Slow down before tight turns
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,615 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,615 m of the 3,034 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 420 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Airbus A320 taxiing from the parking area to the runway at KSNA John Wayne Orange County International Airport. This process took approximately 3 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft then departed from runway 20R, with a takeoff distance of 1,146 meters, which accounted for 66% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 139 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 29 degrees Celsius and winds of 8 knots at 71 degrees. The crosswind and tailwind components were both 6 knots. As the aircraft took off, it began its enroute climb, which started approximately 1 mile southwest of the airport. The climb was from an initial altitude of 1,087 feet above sea level to a maximum altitude of 36,314 feet, an increase of 35,227 feet in 14 minutes, covering a distance of 115 nautical miles.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which began 4 miles southwest of Rosedale, California. This phase lasted for 16 minutes and covered a distance of 435 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, which started 8 miles southeast of KREO Rome State Airport in Rome, Oregon. The descent was from a maximum altitude of 35,804 feet to a final altitude of 3,841 feet, a decrease of 31,962 feet in 12 minutes, covering a distance of 92 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 10L at KBOI Boise Air Terminal/Gowen Field was made from the west, with a heading of 114.0 degrees at 3 nautical miles and 1,000 feet above ground level. The landing was successful, with a touchdown distance of 417 meters, which was 50% of the runway length. The touchdown speed was 133 knots, which was slightly faster than the recommended speed. The touchdown rate was fair at -273 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was very good.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 4 degrees Celsius and winds of 2 knots at 170 degrees. The crosswind and headwind components were 2 and 1 knots, respectively. The total landing distance was 1,532 meters, and the runway rollout alignment was very good. The aircraft then taxied to the parking area, which took approximately 2 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile.
The total flight distance was 649 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 49 minutes. The aircraft used a total of 4,697 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A320 successfully landed at KBOI Boise Air Terminal/Gowen Field, demonstrating a high level of proficiency in its approach and landing procedures. The aircraft's final approach to runway 10L was initiated from the west, with a heading of 114.0° at a distance of 3 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,000 feet above ground level (agl). This positioning allowed the pilots to maintain a safe and controlled descent onto the runway.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down on the runway at a speed of 133 knots, which was slightly faster than the recommended threshold speed of 138 knots. However, this minor deviation did not significantly impact the overall performance of the landing. The touchdown distance of 417 meters was within acceptable limits, indicating that the pilots had effectively managed the aircraft's descent and speed.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were characterized by a temperature of 4°C and a gentle wind of 2 knots from a direction of 170°. This resulted in a crosswind of 2 knots and a headwind of 1 knot, which the pilots successfully navigated to maintain a stable and controlled approach. The touchdown rate of -273 feet per minute (fpm) was fair, suggesting that the pilots could have made some adjustments to achieve a smoother touchdown.
The runway touchdown alignment was very good, indicating that the pilots had accurately aligned the aircraft with the runway centerline. This is a critical aspect of landing safely, as it helps to prevent the aircraft from drifting off the runway or experiencing a loss of directional control. The runway rollout alignment was also very good, demonstrating that the pilots had effectively managed the aircraft's speed and direction during the rollout phase.
Overall, the Airbus A320's landing at KBOI Boise Air Terminal/Gowen Field was a success, with the aircraft demonstrating a high level of proficiency in its approach and landing procedures. The pilots' ability to navigate the local weather conditions and maintain a safe and controlled descent onto the runway was particularly noteworthy. With a score of 98.2%, this landing was an excellent example of safe and efficient aviation operations.
