MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Know your rotation speed
A typical trainer rotates in the mid-50s of knots - a 172 at around 55 KIAS, climbing out at a Vy in the low 70s, though check your own POH rather than memorising Cessna's numbers - and the transferable rule is that Vr sits just above the stall speed in takeoff configuration. Rotate early because "it felt ready" and the aircraft lifts off inside ground effect, where induced drag is reduced, then climbs out of it into more drag. On a marginal-performance day the result is an aircraft that lifts off and then refuses to climb, sagging back towards the runway.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with six checks at 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 6,611 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 6,611 ft of the 9,996 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 2,265 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The Airbus A300 taxied from the parking area to runway 18C at KMEM Memphis International Airport in 4 minutes, covering a distance of 1 nm.
Takeoff was executed on runway 18C with a ground roll of 6,552 ft, representing 59 % of the available runway, and liftoff occurred at 167 kt; ambient temperature was 87 °F with calm wind conditions (0 kt at 0°).
Climb commenced 1 mile south of KMEM, where the aircraft ascended from 1,280 ft asl to 32,551 ft asl, a gain of 31,271 ft achieved in 21 minutes while covering 145 nm.
The first cruise segment began 3 miles southwest of Symsonia, Kentucky, and lasted 30 minutes, during which 217 nm were flown at level altitude.
Descent phase one started 1 mile west of IN60 Wilderness Field, Westfield, Indiana, with a reduction from 32,873 ft asl to 6,103 ft asl, a loss of 26,769 ft over 23 minutes and a distance of 152 nm.
A brief cruise followed 3 miles east of Adrian, Michigan, lasting 3 minutes and covering 13 nm.
Descent phase two was initiated overhead 7MI5 Lada Airport, Petersburg, Michigan, descending from 5,495 ft asl to 5,043 ft asl, a decrease of 452 ft in 2 minutes while traveling 6 nm.
The next cruise segment originated 4 miles east of MI12 State Police HQ Heliport, East Lansing, Michigan, and persisted for 2 minutes, covering 6 nm.
Descent phase three began 4 miles east of 60MI Maybee Airport, Maybee, Michigan, with the aircraft dropping from 4,851 ft asl to 1,860 ft asl, a loss of 2,991 ft in 2 minutes and a distance of 8 nm.
Final approach to runway 03R at KDTW Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport was conducted from the southwest on a heading of 29.0°, intercepting the glide path at 4 nm and 1,214 ft agl.
Landing on runway 03R was completed with a threshold speed of 145 kt, touchdown occurring 904 ft beyond the touchdown zone at 134 kt and a vertical speed of minus 96 fpm; runway length is 9,996 ft, and the aircraft used 6,350 ft (64 % of the runway) for the landing roll, with alignment described as very good.
Runway rollout alignment was perfect, and the aircraft decelerated to a stop within the remaining runway length.
Taxi-in from the runway to the parking area required 4 minutes and covered less than 1 nm.
In total, the flight covered 556 nm, required 94 minutes, and consumed 18,535 lb of fuel.
The Airbus A300 approached runway 03R at KDTW from the south-west on a heading of 29.0° at 4 nm and 1,214 ft agl, with a temperature of 70 °F, wind 3 kt from 20°, crosswind 0 kt and headwind 3 kt. The final approach was assessed as stabilised at the 1,000 ft gate, with gear, flaps, sink rate, glideslope and centreline all within limits.
At threshold the height was good and the threshold speed was well above target at 145 kt.
Touchdown occurred 904 ft beyond the touchdown zone; the touchdown speed of 134 kt was a little fast, while the touchdown rate was excellent at minus 96 fpm and runway touchdown alignment was very good.
The aircraft rolled out over a total landing distance of 6,350 ft, representing 64 % of the 9,996-ft runway, and runway rollout alignment was perfect.
With a final score of 99.0 % the landing was strong; refining the approach to achieve the target threshold speed and reducing the touchdown speed will bring the touchdown point closer to the intended zone and further optimise performance.
