MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Speed on the slow side
Between four hundred and a thousand feet you're heavy, close to the ground and still carrying flap, and speed is the margin holding all three apart. Slow here doesn't feel like anything — the aeroplane climbs, the nose is up, nothing complains — right up until a turn, a gust or a bank tightens the wing's job and the margin is already gone. The fix is rarely "fly faster", it's lowering the nose a degree and letting the speed build before the next thing you do. Pitch buys altitude, speed buys options, and at this height options are the scarcer of the two.

One stabilised approach gate: seven checks where the approach path is 300 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out. These checks are the approach's score.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 1,944 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 510 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The Cessna 208B taxied to runway 31 at PAHP Hooper Bay Airport and commenced the departure roll. The aircraft used a takeoff distance of 345 m, representing 35 % of the runway, and lifted off at 75 kt. Local weather at the time was Temperature 5 °C, Wind 13 kt at 360 °, Crosswind 7 kt and Headwind 11 kt.
Climb began approximately 1 nm north-west of PAHP, with the airplane ascending from 1,016 ft asl to 2,149 ft asl - a gain of 1,133 ft - over 2 minutes while covering 4 nm.
The first level cruise started 2 nm north of Hooper Bay and continued for 22 minutes, during which 59 nm were flown.
A second climb was initiated 20 nm north-east of Newtok, raising the aircraft from 2,728 ft asl to 3,492 ft asl - an increase of 764 ft - in 2 minutes and over a distance of 4 nm.
The subsequent cruise segment began 22 nm north-east of Newtok and lasted 22 minutes, covering 61 nm.
Descent commenced 6 nm south-east of Atmautluak, with altitude decreasing from 2,970 ft asl to 1,517 ft asl - a loss of 1,453 ft - in 2 minutes while traversing 4 nm.
A short cruise followed 3 nm west of PABE Bethel Airport, lasting 2 minutes and covering 5 nm before the final approach.
During the final approach to runway 01L at PABE Bethel Airport, the aircraft descended from 720 ft agl to 75 ft agl in 70 seconds and was scored on the stabilisation gates.
Landing on runway 01L was executed with a runway length of 1,944 m; the threshold speed was 71 kt. Touchdown occurred 80 m beyond the touchdown zone at a speed of 63 kt, with a touchdown rate of minus 94 fpm and very good alignment. Local weather at landing was Temperature 0 °C, Wind 10 kt at 310 °, Crosswind 10 kt and Headwind 3 kt.
The rollout distance measured 781 m, equivalent to 40 % of the runway, and alignment during rollout was very good.
Taxi-in to the parking area required 5 minutes and covered less than 1 nm.
In total, the flight covered 139 nm, took 58 minutes, and consumed 175 kg of fuel.
The Cessna 208B conducted its final approach to runway 01L at Bethel Airport (PABE) descending from 720 ft AGL to 75 ft AGL in 70 seconds and was scored on the stabilisation gates.
At threshold the aircraft maintained a good height, but the threshold speed was well above target at 71 kt.
Touchdown occurred 80 m beyond the designated touchdown zone with a speed of 63 kt, noted as a little fast, while the vertical rate was excellent at minus 94 fpm and runway-touchdown alignment was very good.
The rollout covered a total landing distance of 781 m, representing 40 % of the 1 944 m runway, and rollout alignment was very good.
To convert the strong score of 97.7 % into an even tighter performance, reduce the approach and touchdown speeds toward the published targets and aim to touch down nearer the 300 m (1 000 ft) aim point, which will further optimise the landing distance margin.
