Fixing the bounce
Fast at the threshold, normal flare, and the runway seems to refuse the aircraft. The instinctive fix - pushing it on - causes the next one. A fast aircraft forced onto the runway touches nosewheel-first or nearly so. The tell is a touchdown that feels soft followed by a bounce that steepens. Pilots fix the bounce recovery; the cause was the 10 knots at the threshold.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 480 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 480 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 105 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the departure roll from runway 30 at Glasgow Prestwick Airport, EGPK. The aircraft, Sirius, took off with a takeoff distance of 161 meters, which was 6% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 56 knots. At the time of departure, the local weather conditions were characterized by a temperature of 15 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 2 knots from a direction of 270 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 1 knot and a headwind of 2 knots.
As the aircraft climbed, it started its enroute climb overhead Monkton, a location in South Ayrshire, Scotland. The climb began at an altitude of 316 meters above sea level and increased to 338 meters in less than 1 minute, covering a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. This rapid ascent was a testament to the aircraft's capabilities.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which lasted for 14 minutes and covered a distance of 20 nautical miles. This phase of the flight allowed the aircraft to maintain a steady altitude and speed, conserving fuel and minimizing the risk of fatigue.
As the aircraft approached its destination, it began its enroute descent overhead EGRT Bute Airfield Rothesay, a location in North Ayrshire, Scotland. The descent started at an altitude of 300 meters above sea level and decreased to 42 meters in 2 minutes, covering a distance of 1 nautical mile. This controlled descent ensured a safe and smooth landing.
The final approach to runway 09 at X6BU Bute was made from the west, with the aircraft heading 85 degrees at an altitude of 25.8 meters above ground level. The landing was made on a runway with a length of 480 meters, and the threshold height was good. The threshold speed at 44 knots was well below the target, requiring the pilot to exercise caution to avoid stalling.
The touchdown distance was good at 102 meters, and the touchdown speed at 40 knots was also satisfactory. The touchdown rate was perfect at -0.2 meters per second, and the runway touchdown alignment was very good. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 15 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 4 knots from a direction of 294 degrees, resulting in a crosswind of 2 knots and a tailwind of 4 knots.
The total landing distance was 273 meters, which was 57% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was perfect, indicating a smooth and controlled landing. The total flight distance was 23 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 19 minutes. The aircraft used 4 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The aircraft, identified as Sirius, successfully landed at X6BU Bute with a high score of 95.0%. The final approach was conducted from the west, heading 85.0° at an altitude of 25.8 meters above ground level (agl) and 0 nautical miles from the runway. The pilot demonstrated excellent control and precision, as evident from the good threshold height and touchdown distance of 102 meters.
The touchdown speed of 40 knots was well within the target range, and the touchdown rate of -0.2 meters per second was perfect, indicating a smooth and controlled descent. The runway touchdown alignment was also very good, showcasing the pilot's ability to navigate the aircraft accurately.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 15°C and a gentle wind of 4 knots from 294°. The crosswind component was minimal at 2 knots, and the tailwind component was 4 knots, which did not pose any significant challenges to the pilot.
The total landing distance of 273 meters was 57% of the runway length, indicating a relatively short landing distance. The runway rollout alignment was perfect, demonstrating the pilot's ability to maintain control and stability during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing was executed flawlessly, with the pilot demonstrating exceptional skills and control. The high score of 95.0% is a testament to the pilot's expertise and the aircraft's performance.
