Work on the flare
See Arrival Landing
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway. They are the approach's score: the checks passed out of the checks that ran.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,714 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,714 m of the 2,690 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 401 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing from Vienna International Airport (LOWW), the Airbus A321 initiated its departure roll on runway 29, covering 1,943 meters or 56% of the runway length before lifting off at a speed of 158 knots. The local weather conditions at the time of departure featured a temperature of 12 degrees Celsius, with a gentle wind of 4 knots from a direction of 160 degrees, resulting in a negligible crosswind component.
As the aircraft climbed away from LOWW, it began its enroute climb approximately one mile west of the airport, ascending from an initial altitude of 1,442 feet above sea level to a cruising altitude of 38,009 feet, a vertical gain of 36,567 feet over a distance of 128 nautical miles in 21 minutes. The enroute level cruise phase commenced overhead Hauzenberg, Germany, and lasted for 27 minutes, covering a distance of 189 nautical miles. Subsequently, the aircraft initiated its enroute descent approximately one mile north of Eichenzell, Germany, and descended from 38,024 feet to 1,485 feet above sea level, a vertical loss of 36,538 feet over a distance of 136 nautical miles in 27 minutes.
Upon approaching Düsseldorf Airport (EDDL), the Airbus A321 began its final approach to runway 23L from the northeast, aligning itself with a heading of 233.0 degrees at an altitude of 1,342 feet above ground level and a distance of four nautical miles from the threshold. The aircraft landed on the 2,395-meter-long runway, with a touchdown distance of 406 meters, slightly exceeding the threshold speed of 135 knots but achieving a good threshold height. The touchdown speed of 131 knots was a little fast, and the touchdown rate was hard at -418 feet per minute. The aircraft's runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centerline by 6.3 meters. Following a successful landing, the Airbus A321 taxied to the parking area, covering less than one nautical mile in four minutes. The total flight distance was 461 nautical miles, with a flight time of 86 minutes and a fuel consumption of 3,724 kilograms.
The final approach to runway 23L at EDDL Düsseldorf Airport was conducted from the north east, aligning with the heading of 233.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,342 feet above ground level. The approach quality was satisfactory, with a good threshold height and a threshold speed of 135 knots, which met the expected standards. The aircraft touched down at a speed of 131 knots, slightly above the optimal range, resulting in a hard touchdown rate of -418 feet per minute.
The touchdown distance of 406 meters was within the acceptable limits, and the aircraft remained on the runway for the majority of the landing distance, covering 68% of the 2,395-meter runway. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 6.3 meters from the centreline, which may have contributed to the hard touchdown rate. Local weather conditions were favorable, with a temperature of 13°C and a calm wind of 8 knots at 0°, resulting in a minimal crosswind component of 6 knots and a tailwind of 5 knots.
The rollout phase was executed well, with the aircraft maintaining a very good alignment with the centreline. The total landing distance of 1,637 meters was within the acceptable limits, and the overall performance of the aircraft earned a score of 96.7%. While there were some minor deviations from the optimal standards, the landing was generally satisfactory, and the aircraft demonstrated good handling characteristics throughout the approach, touchdown, and rollout phases.
