MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway. They are the approach's score: the checks passed out of the checks that ran.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 6,871 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 6,871 ft of the 10,510 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 2,645 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The Airbus A321-CEO taxied from the parking area to runway 28L at KSFO, a movement that lasted 8 minutes and covered 2 nm.
During the departure roll on runway 28L, the aircraft accelerated to a liftoff speed of 164 kt and left the ground after traveling 5,376 ft, which represented 49 % of the runway length; ambient conditions were 67 °F with a wind of 5 kt from 250°, including a 4 kt cross-wind and a 3 kt head-wind component.
Climb commenced over San Bruno, where the airplane rose from 969 ft asl to 36,467 ft asl, gaining 35,498 ft in 20 minutes while covering 137 nm.
The first level-cruise segment began over Parkwood and persisted for 13 minutes, during which 113 nm were flown.
A descent started 19 nm southeast of Dyer Airport (2Q9), lowering the flight from 37,013 ft asl to 31,035 ft asl, a loss of 5,978 ft in 3 minutes over 27 nm.
The next cruise phase originated 7 nm west of Goldfield Airport (KGOL) and lasted 2 minutes, during which the aircraft covered 12 nm.
A subsequent descent began 6 nm southeast of KGOL, bringing the airplane from 31,010 ft asl down to 7,280 ft asl, a reduction of 23,730 ft in 22 minutes across 127 nm.
A brief cruise segment followed 2 nm east of Henderson, lasting 2 minutes and spanning 6 nm.
The final descent started 3 nm north of Boulder City, decreasing altitude from 6,726 ft asl to 3,329 ft asl, a loss of 3,398 ft in 4 minutes while covering 15 nm.
On final approach to runway 26L at KLAS, the aircraft descended from 1,264 ft agl to 20 ft agl in 91 seconds and was recorded as having scored on the stabilisation gates.
Landing on runway 26L, which is 10,510 ft long, was achieved with a threshold speed of 145 kt; touchdown occurred 1,297 ft beyond the touchdown zone at 128 kt, with a vertical speed of minus 166 fpm and perfect runway-centerline alignment, while local weather reported 86 °F and a wind of 2 kt from 40° (2 kt cross-wind, 2 kt tail-wind). The total landing roll measured 6,623 ft, representing 63 % of the runway.
Runway rollout alignment remained perfect throughout the deceleration phase.
The aircraft taxied from the runway to the parking area in 6 minutes, covering a further 2 nm.
In total, the flight covered 448 nm, took 82, and consumed 7,748 lb of fuel.
The Airbus A321ceo executed a stabilised approach at the 1,000 ft gate, with gear, flaps, sink rate, glideslope, centreline and speed all within limits, and received a stabilisation-gate score. The final approach to runway 26L at KLAS Harry Reid International Airport descended from 1,264 ft agl to 20 ft agl in 91 seconds, meeting the required parameters for a stabilised descent.
At threshold the aircraft maintained a good threshold height and achieved a threshold speed of 145 kt, indicating proper energy management during the flare phase.
Touchdown occurred 1,297 ft beyond the touchdown zone with a touchdown speed of 128 kt and a vertical rate of -166 fpm, both recorded as good. Runway touchdown alignment was perfect.
The rollout covered a total landing distance of 6,623 ft, representing 63 % of the 10,510 ft runway, and rollout alignment remained perfect throughout the deceleration.
With a score of 98.2 %, the landing was excellent; refining the flare to achieve a touchdown point nearer the 1,000 ft aim point would further reduce rollout distance and optimise runway usage.
