Flight Score
Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway. They are the approach's score: the checks passed out of the checks that ran.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 2,200 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 2,200 m of the 3,315 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 735 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The Boeing 737-800 taxied from the parking area to runway 27 at EGGD Bristol Airport in 8 minutes, covering 1 nm.
During the departure roll on runway 27, the aircraft used a takeoff distance of 1,366 m 73 % of runway and lifted off at 156 kt. Local weather reported a temperature of 13 °C, wind 1 kt at 272 °, cross-wind 0 kt and head-wind 1 kt.
En-route climb commenced 1 mile south-east of Brockley (North Somerset, England), climbing from 1,488 ft asl to 6,005 ft asl - an increase of 4,517 ft - in 3 minutes while covering 12 nm.
A level cruise segment began overhead Tickenham (North Somerset, England) and lasted 2 minutes, during which the aircraft travelled 7 nm.
A second climb started 1 mile south-west of Easter Compton (South Gloucestershire, England), ascending from 5,974 ft asl to 34,496 ft asl - a gain of 28,522 ft - in 15 minutes and covering 104 nm.
The subsequent cruise phase originated 7 miles south-east of Bognor Regis (West Sussex, England) and persisted for 78 minutes, during which 568 nm were flown.
Descent began 4 miles south-east of Sant Andreu de Llavaneres (Catalunya, Spain), dropping from 34,722 ft asl to 1,266 ft asl - a loss of 33,455 ft - in 28 minutes and traversing 149 nm.
On final approach to runway 06L at LEPA Palma de Mallorca Airport, the aircraft descended from 1,286 ft agl to 95 ft agl in 92 seconds and was scored on the stabilisation gates.
Landing on runway 06L, whose length is 3,315 m, the threshold height at 57 ft agl was slightly above target and the threshold speed of 149 kt was marginally high. Touchdown occurred 319 m beyond the touchdown zone at a speed of 142 kt, with a touchdown rate of minus 191 fpm and a lateral deviation of 4.8 m from centreline. Local weather at the time was temperature 21 °C, wind 3 kt at 40 °, cross-wind 1 kt and head-wind 3 kt.
The total landing distance recorded was 2,119 m, representing 64 % of the runway, and the runway rollout alignment was described as very good.
After exiting the runway, the aircraft taxied to the parking area in 5 minutes, covering less than 1 nm.
In summary, the flight covered 849 nm, lasted 140 minutes, and consumed 5,234 kg of fuel.
The Boeing 737-800 approached runway 06L at LEPA Palma de Mallorca Airport in a stabilised configuration, with gear, flaps, sink rate, glideslope, centreline and speed all within limits at the 1,000 ft gate. Descent was from 1,286 ft AGL to 95 ft AGL in 92 seconds, and the approach was scored on the stabilisation gates.
At the threshold the aircraft was slightly high, with the threshold height measured at 57 ft AGL, and the threshold speed was slightly above target at 149 kt.
Touchdown occurred 319 m beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 142 kt described as a little fast and a vertical rate of -191 fpm judged good. The touchdown point was slightly misaligned by 4.8 m from the centreline.
Rollout alignment was very good, and the total landing distance was 2,119 m, representing 64 % of the 3,315 m runway. Local weather was 21 °C with wind 3 kt from 040°, including a 1 kt crosswind component and a 3 kt headwind.
To refine the already strong performance, aim to reduce the touchdown point distance by initiating the flare slightly earlier to achieve the standard 300 m (1,000 ft) aim point, and modestly decrease the touchdown speed toward the target to improve margin without compromising safety.
