Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,888 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,888 m of the 3,996 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 1,106 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 2 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, a TBM 850, then departed from runway 01 at SLOR Juan Mendoza Airport. The takeoff distance was 2,011 meters, which accounted for 53% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 99 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 18°C, with a wind speed of 7 knots at 101°. The crosswind was 7 knots, while the tailwind was 1 knot. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting 2 miles north of SLOR Juan Mendoza Airport, and climbed from 13,201 feet above sea level to 16,405 feet above sea level, an increase of 3,204 feet in 3 minutes, covering 11 nautical miles.
The enroute descent started 13 miles north of Oruro, Bolivia, and the aircraft descended from 16,586 feet above sea level to 16,009 feet above sea level, a decrease of 577 feet in 2 minutes, covering 8 nautical miles. The enroute level cruise started 12 miles east of Eucaliptus, Bolivia, and lasted 2 minutes, covering 15 nautical miles. The aircraft then began another enroute climb, starting 5 miles south east of Belen, Bolivia, and climbed from 16,000 feet above sea level to 16,994 feet above sea level, an increase of 994 feet in 2 minutes, covering 15 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started 4 miles north east of SLVA Villa Aroma Airport, Aroma, Bolivia, and lasted 9 minutes, covering 55 nautical miles. The enroute descent started 6 miles south west of SLLJ Laja Airport, Los Andes, Bolivia, and the aircraft descended from 16,800 feet above sea level to 14,175 feet above sea level, a decrease of 2,625 feet in 3 minutes, covering 9 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 10 at SLLP El Alto International Airport was made from the west, heading 92.0° at 4 nautical miles and 955 feet above ground level. The landing on runway 10 was successful, with a touchdown point 678 meters beyond the touchdown zone. The touchdown speed was 71 knots, which was a little fast, but the touchdown rate was perfect at 37 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 3.2 meters from the centerline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 15°C, with a wind speed of 1 knot at 269°. The crosswind was 0 knots, while the tailwind was 1 knot. The total landing distance was 1,796 meters, which accounted for 45% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 1 minute and covered less than 1 nautical mile.
The total flight distance was 123 nautical miles, taking 31 minutes, and the aircraft used 93 kilograms of fuel.
The TBM 850 aircraft successfully landed at SLLP El Alto International Airport, achieving an overall score of 86.7%. The final approach was conducted from the west, heading 92.0° at 4 nautical miles and 955 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft touched down on runway 10, which has a length of 3,996 meters.
The threshold height was satisfactory, and the threshold speed was well above the target at 80 knots. However, the touchdown point was located 678 meters beyond the touchdown zone, indicating that the aircraft landed slightly further down the runway than intended. The touchdown speed of 71 knots was a little fast, but the touchdown rate of 37 feet per minute (fpm) was perfect.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 3.2 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the approach or during the landing roll. The local weather conditions were favorable, with a temperature of 15°C and a wind speed of 1 knot at 269°. The crosswind component was negligible, and the tailwind component was minimal at 1 knot.
The total landing distance of 1,796 meters was 45% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the pilot maintained control of the aircraft during the landing roll and was able to align the aircraft with the centerline of the runway. Overall, the landing was satisfactory, but there were some minor deviations from the ideal touchdown point and speed.
