Flight Score
Know your rotation speed
A typical trainer rotates in the mid-50s of knots - a 172 at around 55 KIAS, climbing out at a Vy in the low 70s, though check your own POH rather than memorising Cessna's numbers - and the transferable rule is that Vr sits just above the stall speed in takeoff configuration. Rotate early because "it felt ready" and the aircraft lifts off inside ground effect, where induced drag is reduced, then climbs out of it into more drag. On a marginal-performance day the result is an aircraft that lifts off and then refuses to climb, sagging back towards the runway.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,985 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 424 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 8 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. The aircraft then departed from runway 05 at EDHI Hamburg-Finkenwerder Airport, with a takeoff distance of 756 meters, which accounted for 41% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 146 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 20 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 13 knots at a direction of 100 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 10 knots and a headwind of 8 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting 1 mile northeast of EDHI Hamburg-Finkenwerder Airport, and climbed from an initial altitude of 1,011 feet above sea level to a maximum altitude of 31,755 feet above sea level, an increase of 30,744 feet in 16 minutes, covering a distance of 77 nautical miles.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 1 mile west of Apelern, Germany, and lasted for 16 minutes, covering a distance of 101 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting 1 mile north of Herborn, Germany, and descended from a maximum altitude of 31,762 feet above sea level to a final altitude of 2,052 feet above sea level, a decrease of 29,710 feet in 17 minutes, covering a distance of 79 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 27 at ETAR Ramstein Air Base was made from the east, with a heading of 266.0 degrees at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,269 feet above ground level. The landing was made on runway 27, which had a length of 2,985 meters. The threshold height was good, but the threshold speed was too high at 153 knots. The touchdown distance was good at 427 meters, and the touchdown speed was a little fast at 140 knots. The touchdown rate was fair at -279 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was very good.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 23 degrees Celsius. The total landing distance was 1,177 meters, which accounted for 39% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was perfect. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 2 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 265 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 61 minutes, with a fuel consumption of 3,832 kilograms.
The A400M aircraft successfully landed at ETAR Ramstein Air Base, achieving a score of 96.5%. The final approach to runway 27 was conducted from the east, with a heading of 266.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,269 feet above ground level (agl).
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down on the runway, with a touchdown distance of 427 meters. However, the touchdown speed of 140 knots was slightly higher than ideal, indicating that the pilot may have been able to flare the aircraft more effectively to achieve a smoother touchdown. The touchdown rate of -279 feet per minute (fpm) was considered fair, suggesting that the aircraft's descent was not as controlled as it could have been.
The runway touchdown alignment was very good, indicating that the pilot had successfully aligned the aircraft with the runway centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were favorable, with a temperature of 23°C.
The total landing distance of 1,177 meters was 39% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. The runway rollout alignment was perfect, indicating that the pilot had successfully controlled the aircraft's rotation and deceleration during the landing roll.
One area for improvement identified in the landing was the threshold speed, which was too high at 153 knots. This suggests that the pilot may have been able to reduce the aircraft's speed more effectively during the approach, resulting in a smoother and more controlled touchdown. Overall, the landing was considered successful, with the aircraft achieving a high score and demonstrating good control and precision during the approach and landing phases.
