Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 1,601 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 655 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway at EKSP Skrydstrup Air Base, which took 18 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft then departed from runway 10L, with a takeoff distance of 1,212 meters, which is 40% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 211 knots.
As the aircraft took off, it encountered local weather conditions of 21°C temperature and a wind speed of 6 knots at 270°. The crosswind was 2 knots, and there was a tailwind of 6 knots. After taking off, the aircraft began its enroute climb, starting 1 mile south of Vojens in Region Syddanmark, Denmark. The climb was from an altitude of 1,171 feet above sea level to 33,606 feet above sea level, an increase of 32,435 feet in just 7 minutes, covering a distance of 25 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started 3 miles south-east of Havneby in Region Syddanmark, Denmark, and lasted for 2 minutes, covering a distance of 7 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting overhead List in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. The descent was from an altitude of 34,446 feet above sea level to 30,884 feet above sea level, a decrease of 3,562 feet in 2 minutes, covering a distance of 8 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another enroute level cruise, starting 6 miles west of Kampen in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, and lasted for 43 minutes, covering a distance of 404 nautical miles. The enroute descent started 11 miles north of Veulettes-sur-Mer in Normandie, France, and the descent was from an altitude of 30,909 feet above sea level to 5,784 feet above sea level, a decrease of 25,125 feet in 11 minutes, covering a distance of 55 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another enroute level cruise, starting 1 mile east of Varaville in Normandie, France, and lasted for 2 minutes, covering a distance of 6 nautical miles. The enroute descent started 1 mile south of Janville in Normandie, France, and the descent was from an altitude of 5,534 feet above sea level to 1,647 feet above sea level, a decrease of 3,888 feet in 4 minutes, covering a distance of 8 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 31 at LFRK Caen-Carpiquet Airport was from the south-east, heading 305.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,396 feet above ground level. The landing was on runway 31, which has a length of 1,601 meters. The threshold height at 55 feet above ground level was slightly above the target, but the threshold speed was good at 168 knots.
The touchdown point was 242 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 132 knots, which was good. However, the touchdown rate was fair at -224 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 7.2 meters from the centreline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 19°C temperature and a wind speed of 6 knots at 270°, with a crosswind of 3 knots and a headwind of 5 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,334 meters, which is 83% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 1 minute and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was
The F-35C Lightning aircraft successfully landed at LFRK Caen-Carpiquet Airport, achieving an overall score of 87.1%. The final approach to runway 31 was initiated from the south east, with a heading of 305.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,396 feet above ground level.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down on the runway, with a threshold height slightly above the target at 55 feet above ground level. However, the threshold speed was satisfactory at 168 knots, indicating a smooth and controlled descent. The touchdown point was located 242 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, which may indicate a slight deviation from the intended landing path.
The touchdown speed of 132 knots was within the acceptable range, demonstrating a well-executed landing. However, the touchdown rate of -224 feet per minute was only fair, suggesting that the aircraft may have experienced a slightly higher-than-desired rate of descent during the final stages of the landing.
In terms of runway alignment, the aircraft's touchdown position was slightly misaligned with the centerline by 7.2 meters. This may be attributed to factors such as wind or pilot error. The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were characterized by a temperature of 19°C, with a wind speed of 6 knots from a direction of 270°. The crosswind component was minimal at 3 knots, while the headwind component was 5 knots.
The total landing distance of 1,334 meters was 83% of the available runway length, indicating a relatively short landing roll. The runway rollout alignment was very good, suggesting that the aircraft's brakes were applied smoothly and effectively to bring the aircraft to a stop. Overall, while there were some minor deviations from the ideal landing, the F-35C Lightning aircraft demonstrated a high level of proficiency and control during the landing at LFRK Caen-Carpiquet Airport.
