Avoid steep turns at low altitude
Below a thousand feet the aeroplane is slow, heavy and close to the ground. A steep turn loses lift, raises the stall speed and flattens the climb just when the gradient matters most. A normal turn on course is a rate one — fifteen degrees or so, twenty-five at the outside, this penalty is to acknowledge when a turn has stopped being a turn and become a manoeuvre.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,486 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 266 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Taxiing from the parking area to the runway at LQSA Sarajevo International Airport took a mere 1 minute, covering less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft then began its departure roll on runway 29, utilizing only 3% of the available runway length to achieve liftoff at a speed of 78 knots. The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 15°C, with a gentle headwind of 1 knot from a direction of 269°.
As the aircraft climbed away from Sarajevo, it began its enroute climb 1 mile northwest of the airport, ascending from an initial altitude of 2,347 feet above sea level to a cruising altitude of 10,892 feet. This climb phase, which lasted 9 minutes, covered a distance of 23 nautical miles and resulted in an impressive increase of 8,544 feet in altitude. The aircraft then entered a level cruise phase, which started 2 miles west of LQSC Glasinac Sarajevo and lasted 27 minutes, covering a distance of 84 nautical miles. This was followed by a descent phase, which began 3 miles southwest of Kolasin, Montenegro, and resulted in a decrease of 8,329 feet in altitude over a distance of 26 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 36 at LYPG Podgorica Airport / Podgorica Golubovci Airbase was initiated from the south, with the aircraft maintaining a heading of 360° at an altitude of 1,307 feet above ground level. The landing was executed successfully, with the aircraft touching down at a speed of 62 knots and a touchdown distance of 264 meters. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centerline, but the runway rollout alignment was very good. The total landing distance was 947 meters, which represented 38% of the available runway length. Following the landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, taking 3 minutes to cover a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 148 nautical miles, and the aircraft consumed 210 kilograms of fuel during the flight, which lasted a total of 58 minutes.
The aircraft touched down on runway 36 at LYPG Podgorica Airport / Podgorica Golubovci Airbase with a good threshold height, allowing for a smooth transition from the approach to the touchdown phase. The threshold speed of 65 kt was well-managed, indicating a high degree of control and precision. The touchdown distance of 264 m was within acceptable limits, and the touchdown speed of 62 kt was also satisfactory, suggesting a well-executed flare.
The touchdown rate of -372 fpm was firm, but not excessive, indicating a controlled descent. However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 4.4 m from the centreline, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the approach or a minor issue with the aircraft's directional control. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 15 °C and a light wind of 1 kt at 270 °, were generally favorable for the landing.
The total landing distance of 947 m, which accounted for 38% of the runway length, was within acceptable limits. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating a high degree of control and precision during the rollout phase. Overall, the landing was considered to be of high quality, with a score of 95.1%.
