Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 305 m and 152 m above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,936 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,936 m of the 3,072 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 256 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
This flight was operated by a Boeing 737-800 aircraft. The journey began with taxiing from the parking area to the runway, taking approximately 11 minutes and covering a distance of 2 nautical miles. Once at the runway, the takeoff commenced from Runway 35L at LIMC Milan Malpensa International Airport.
The aircraft required a takeoff distance of 1,999 meters, which covered 57 percent of the runway. The liftoff speed was achieved at 161 knots, marking the beginning of the climb phase. At that time, the local weather was characterized by a temperature of 28°C and winds of 5 knots at 139 degrees, which resulted in a 2-knot crosswind and a 4-knot tailwind.
The enroute climb started about 1 mile southwest of Casorate Sempione, Lombardia, Italy, and involved increasing the altitude from 544 meters above sea level (asl) to 10,936 m asl, resulting in an impressive height gain of 10,392 meters. The climb covered a total distance of 121 nautical miles within the time span of 23 minutes.
Following the climb, the aircraft entered an enroute level cruise phase while flying overhead Bazzano, Emilia-Romagna, Italy, and lasting 149 minutes. This cruise segment covered a significant distance of 1,359 nautical miles. The descent from the cruise phase began east of the HE38 Abu Rish Valley Airport Wadi Abu Rish in Egypt, which was situated 29 miles away. The descent from 11,039 m asl to 451 m asl resulted in a decrease of 10,587.8 meters within 21 minutes, covering an additional 130 nautical miles.
The final approach to Runway 04R at HESH Sharm El Sheikh International Airport was initiated from the south-west, at a heading of 41.0 degrees, located at an approximate distance of 4 nautical miles and at an altitude of 411.4 meters above ground level. At this point, the landing began on the runway.
The landing on Runway 04R at HESH occurred with a total runway length of 3,072 meters. At the threshold height, the aircraft's height was slightly above target, while the threshold speed was also slightly above the desired value at 154 knots. The touchdown distance of 257 meters was reasonable, but the touchdown speed of 152 knots was a bit faster than ideal.
The touchdown rate was very heavy, indicating a rapid loss of altitude as the aircraft touched the ground, at a rate of -5.3 m/s. Additionally, the runway touchdown position was only 7.4 meters misaligned from the centreline. The local weather conditions at HESH were a temperature of 29°C and winds of 6 knots at 340 degrees, which resulted in a 5-knot crosswind and a 3-knot headwind.
In terms of performance metrics, the total landing distance of 1,871 meters covered 61 percent of the runway. Post-landing, the aircraft demonstrated exceptional runway rollout alignment. The taxiing from the runway back to the parking area was completed within 5 minutes and covered a relatively short distance of less than 1 nautical mile.
Lastly, the overall flight covered a total distance of 1,619 nautical miles and took a duration of 2 hours and 9 minutes, consuming approximately 10,476 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
A Boeing 737-800 landed safely at HESH Sharm El Sheikh International Airport, with a final approach score of 87.9%. The aircraft was approaching the runway from the southwest, heading at 41.0 degrees and 4 nautical miles away from the airport with an altitude of 411.4 meters above ground level. The pilot successfully navigated the aircraft onto Runway 04R, which has a length of 3,072 meters.
As the aircraft touched down on the runway, it slightly exceeded the target threshold height by 17.2 meters and speed by 154 kt. However, the touchdown distance of 257 meters was within acceptable limits. The touchdown speed of 152 kt was slightly above the ideal speed, contributing to a landing rate of -5.3 m/s, which was considered heavy. Additionally, the aircraft's rollout position on the runway was slightly misaligned from the centerline by 7.4 meters.
The landing was conducted under favorable weather conditions, with a temperature of 29°C, winds of 6 kt from 340 degrees, and minimal crosswind and headwind components. Considering the runway conditions, wind, and other factors, the total distance required for the aircraft to land and come to rest was 1,871 meters, accounting for only 61% of the available runway length. Notably, the runway rollout alignment was highly praised.
