Fixing the bounce
Fast at the threshold, normal flare, and the runway seems to refuse the aircraft. The instinctive fix - pushing it on - causes the next one. A fast aircraft forced onto the runway touches nosewheel-first or nearly so. The tell is a touchdown that feels soft followed by a bounce that steepens. Pilots fix the bounce recovery; the cause was the 10 knots at the threshold.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway. They are the approach's score: the checks passed out of the checks that ran.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,996 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 470 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The Airbus A320-ceo taxied from the parking area to runway 20L at Santos Dumont Airport (SBRJ) in 9 minutes, covering a distance of 1 nm.
During the departure roll on runway 20L, the aircraft used 938 m of runway, representing 71 % of the available length, and lifted off at 142 kt; ambient temperature was 24 °C with a wind of 7 kt from 180°, giving a headwind component of 7 kt and no cross-wind.
Climb commenced 1 mile south-east of Rio de Janeiro, with the flight ascending from 843 ft asl to 34 008 ft asl, an increase of 33 165 ft achieved in 18 minutes while covering 104 nm.
The first cruise segment began 13 miles north of Paraty and lasted 5 minutes, during which the aircraft travelled 34 nm at level altitude.
Descent started 16 miles west of Cunha, dropping from 34 016 ft asl to 20 568 ft asl, a loss of 13 448 ft in 6 minutes over a distance of 43 nm.
A brief cruise followed, initiating 3 miles south-west of Jacarei and lasting 2 minutes, during which 8 nm were covered.
The second descent began 5 miles south-east of Santa Isabel, descending from 20 009 ft asl to 3 691 ft asl, a reduction of 16 318 ft in 14 minutes while traversing 65 nm.
On final approach to runway 10R at André Franco Montoro International Airport (SBGR), the aircraft descended from 1 284 ft agl to -5 ft agl in 102 seconds and was scored on the stabilisation gates.
Landing on runway 10R was performed with a threshold speed of 139 kt, a touchdown distance of 472 m, touchdown speed of 134 kt, and a touchdown rate of minus 295 fpm; runway touchdown alignment was very good, temperature was 24 °C, wind 11 kt from 70° with a 1 kt cross-wind and an 11 kt head-wind.
The rollout covered a total landing distance of 1 402 m, representing 47 % of the runway, and runway rollout alignment was very good.
After exiting the runway, the aircraft taxied to the parking area in 9 minutes, traveling 2 nm.
In total, the flight covered 262 nm, took 64 minutes, and consumed 291 kg of fuel.
The Airbus A320ceo approached runway 10R at SBGR André Franco Montoro International Airport in a stabilised configuration at the 1,000 ft gate, with gear, flaps, sink rate, glideslope, centreline and speed all within limits. The final descent covered the interval from 1,284 ft agl to -5 ft agl in 102 seconds, and the overall landing earned a score of 96.0 %.
At threshold the aircraft’s speed was slightly above target at 139 kt and the threshold height was good, allowing a touchdown point of 472 m down the 2,996 m runway, which was judged good.
Touchdown occurred at 134 kt, a little fast, with a fair vertical rate of minus 295 fpm, while runway-touchdown alignment was very good.
The rollout used a total distance of 1,402 m, representing 47 % of the runway, and runway-rollout alignment remained very good throughout.
To tighten the already strong performance, aim for the target threshold speed and manage the flare to reduce touchdown speed and vertical rate, which will further improve the touchdown profile while preserving the excellent alignment already demonstrated.
