Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,892 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,892 m of the 3,986 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 632 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing from Zürich Airport (LSZH), the Airbus A321 began its journey by taxiing from the parking area to the runway, a process that took 6 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. As the aircraft reached the end of runway 32, it initiated its departure roll, accelerating down the 2,265-meter-long runway, which represented 69% of its total length. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 165 knots, clearing the ground with ease.
As the aircraft climbed away from Zürich, it encountered a local weather pattern characterized by a temperature of 27°C and a gentle wind of 2 knots from a direction of 60°. The enroute climb phase began overhead Niederglatt/Grafschaft, where the aircraft transitioned from a low altitude of 2,419 feet above sea level to a cruising altitude of 18,009 feet, a vertical gain of 15,590 feet in just 10 minutes. This climb phase covered a distance of 53 nautical miles, setting the stage for the long-haul journey ahead. The aircraft then leveled off and entered a 5-minute cruise phase, during which it covered an additional 38 nautical miles.
As the aircraft approached its destination, Frankfurt Airport (EDDF), it began its descent phase, starting 2 miles northwest of Scheibenhardt. The aircraft descended from 17,998 feet to 1,544 feet above sea level, a vertical loss of 16,454 feet in 15 minutes, covering a distance of 73 nautical miles. The final approach to runway 07C was initiated from the southwest, with the aircraft aligning itself for a smooth touchdown. The landing was executed at a speed of 149 knots, with the touchdown point located 228 meters beyond the touchdown zone. The aircraft touched down at a speed of 140 knots, with a smooth touchdown rate of -110 feet per minute. The total landing distance was 1,824 meters, representing 46% of the runway length. Following the landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, a process that took 2 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 172 nautical miles, with a total flight time of 39 minutes and a fuel consumption of 2,103 kilograms.
The aircraft touched down on runway 07C at EDDF Frankfurt Airport, a 3,992-meter-long runway, with a good threshold height. The approach quality was satisfactory, with a threshold speed of 149 kt, which was within the acceptable range. The aircraft descended from an altitude of 1,190 feet above ground level (agl) at a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway, heading 70.0° from the south-west.
The touchdown point was 228 meters beyond the touchdown zone, indicating a slightly long touchdown. The touchdown speed of 140 kt was a little fast, but the touchdown rate was smooth at -110 feet per minute (fpm). The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 5.8 meters from the centreline, which may have contributed to the long touchdown. The local weather conditions were favorable, with a temperature of 22°C, a wind speed of 6 kt at 30°, resulting in a 4 kt crosswind and a 5 kt headwind.
The total landing distance was 1,824 meters, which accounted for 46% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned by 11.9 meters from the centreline. Despite these minor deviations, the overall landing performance was satisfactory, earning a score of 92.8%.
