Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
At the 500 ft gate: off the runway's 3° glideslope.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 2,651 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 2,651 m of the 2,820 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 750 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 7 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-800, then departed from runway 05C at HECA Cairo International Airport. The takeoff distance was 2,188 meters, which was 55% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 164 knots, and the local weather conditions at the time of departure were a temperature of 22°C, with a wind speed of 6 knots at 19°.
As the aircraft climbed out of HECA Cairo International Airport, it began its enroute climb, which started 1 mile northeast of the airport. The climb took 21 minutes and covered a distance of 142 nautical miles, during which the aircraft ascended from an altitude of 1,410 feet above sea level to 33,377 feet above sea level, an increase of 31,966 feet.
After completing the enroute climb, the aircraft entered its enroute level cruise phase, which started 11 miles south of Ras Gharib, Egypt. This phase of the flight lasted for 260 minutes and covered a distance of 2,143 nautical miles.
As the aircraft approached its destination, it began its enroute descent, which started at a latitude of 18.6403898 and a longitude of 70.681504. The descent took 22 minutes and covered a distance of 122 nautical miles, during which the aircraft descended from an altitude of 34,224 feet above sea level to 1,365 feet above sea level, a decrease of 32,860 feet.
The final approach to runway 09 at VABB Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport was made from the west, with a heading of 89.0° at an altitude of 4 nautical miles and 1,328 feet above ground level. The landing was made on runway 09, which had a length of 2,820 meters. The threshold height at 131 feet above ground level was excessively over target, and the threshold speed was slightly above target at 150 knots.
The touchdown point was 266 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 139 knots, which was a little fast. The touchdown rate was very hard at -581 feet per minute. However, the runway touchdown alignment was perfect. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 27°C, with a wind speed of 6 knots at 360°.
After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking from the runway, which took 2 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 2,416 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 315 minutes. The aircraft used 13,840 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 737-800 aircraft successfully landed at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, but the landing was not without some issues. The final approach to runway 09 was initiated from the west, heading 89.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,328 feet above ground level. The aircraft touched down on the runway, but the touchdown point was 266 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, indicating that the pilot may have slightly over-extended the landing.
The touchdown speed of 139 knots was slightly above the target speed, which could have contributed to the hard touchdown rate of -581 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, but the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 13.3 meters from the centerline. This could have been due to the pilot's reaction to the hard touchdown or other factors.
The threshold height at 131 feet above ground level was excessively over the target, which could have been a result of the pilot's decision to flare the aircraft too late or not aggressively enough. The threshold speed was slightly above the target at 150 knots, which could have been due to the aircraft's speed being too high during the final approach.
The local weather conditions were favorable for landing, with a temperature of 27°C and a wind speed of 6 knots from 360°. There was no crosswind or headwind, which made the landing conditions relatively easy. However, the pilot still managed to achieve a hard touchdown rate, which could have been a result of the aircraft's speed or the pilot's technique.
Overall, the landing was not perfect, but it was still a safe and successful one. The pilot's decision to flare the aircraft too late or not aggressively enough may have contributed to the hard touchdown rate and the slightly misaligned runway rollout. However, the pilot's skills and experience were still able to bring the aircraft safely to the ground, despite some issues with the landing.
