Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 6,380 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 6,380 ft of the 8,577 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 1,868 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Airbus A321 taxiing from the parking area to the runway at Miami International Airport, taking 6 minutes and covering a distance of 1 nautical mile. The aircraft then departed from runway 26L, with a takeoff distance of 5,952 feet, which was 57% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 168 knots.
As the aircraft climbed to a higher altitude, it encountered local weather conditions of a temperature of 61°F and winds of 6 knots at 297°. The crosswind was 3 knots, and the headwind was 5 knots. The enroute climb started overhead Virginia Gardens, Florida, and the aircraft climbed from 993 feet above sea level to 32,009 feet above sea level, an increase of 31,016 feet in 19 minutes, covering a distance of 118 nautical miles.
After reaching the desired altitude, the aircraft entered a level cruise, starting 36 miles south of Marathon, Florida. This phase of the flight lasted 82 minutes and covered a distance of 559 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its descent, starting 31 miles north of Coxen Hole, Honduras, and descended from 31,582 feet above sea level to 4,616 feet above sea level, a decrease of 26,966 feet in 14 minutes, covering a distance of 82 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise, starting 7 miles west of MHTE Tela Airport, Honduras, and lasted for 3 minutes, covering a distance of 12 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final descent, starting 10 miles northeast of San Jose del Boqueron, Honduras, and descended from 4,238 feet above sea level to 1,333 feet above sea level, a decrease of 2,905 feet in 3 minutes, covering a distance of 9 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 22 at Ramón Villeda Morales International Airport was made from the northeast, heading 220.0°, at an altitude of 4 nautical miles and 1,229 feet above ground level. The landing was made on runway 22, which had a length of 8,577 feet. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was slightly above the target at 145 knots.
The touchdown point was 510 feet beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 136 knots, which was a little fast. However, the touchdown rate was good at -160 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, and the local weather conditions were a temperature of 70°F and winds of 5 knots at 70°. The crosswind was 2 knots, and the tailwind was 4 knots.
The total landing distance was 6,122 feet, which was 71% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was perfect, and the aircraft then taxied to the parking area, taking 3 minutes and covering a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 788 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 131 minutes. The aircraft used 13,853 pounds of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A321 successfully landed at MHLM Ramón Villeda Morales International Airport, achieving a high score of 98.6%. The aircraft approached the runway from the north east, heading 220.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,229 feet above ground level (agl). The final approach was executed with precision, and the aircraft landed on runway 22, which has a length of 8,577 feet.
The threshold height was satisfactory, but the threshold speed was slightly above the target at 145 knots. This minor deviation did not significantly impact the overall performance of the landing. The touchdown point was 510 feet beyond the touchdown zone, which is a relatively safe distance. However, the touchdown speed of 136 knots was a bit faster than desired, indicating that the aircraft could have been slowed down slightly before touching down.
The touchdown rate of -160 feet per minute (fpm) was good, indicating a controlled descent. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, demonstrating the pilot's skill and attention to detail. The local weather conditions were favorable, with a temperature of 70°F and a gentle wind of 5 knots at 70°. The crosswind was minimal at 2 knots, and the tailwind was 4 knots, which did not significantly affect the landing.
The total landing distance was 6,122 feet, which is 71% of the runway length. This is a relatively short landing distance, indicating that the aircraft was well-controlled throughout the descent. The runway rollout alignment was also perfect, demonstrating the pilot's ability to maintain control of the aircraft after touchdown. Overall, the landing was executed with precision and skill, resulting in a high score of 98.6%.
